THE DENTON RECORD CHRONICLB
what you're thinking,” she says,
"but he copied it from me.”
However, the evening belonged
to David Mayberry Wednesday
night, as far as comic characteri-
zation goes. He is a journalism
professor set out to have a feature
story actually published in a real
newspaper (The New York Times).
Mayberry, an ex-NTSC drama ma-
jor, plays the tight • suited
bow-tied professor with a comic
polish, familiar to those that have
seen his work in Denton. The re-
cluse sisters give him his first
published story, but then actual
experience in his field is not real-
ly too important in education cir-
cles, he comments.
The rest of the cast performs
well by Community Theatre stan-
dards. Johnny Sullivan, familiar
to Casa Manana audiences, plays
the hotel clerk rather spoofingly.
And Edwin Swint is the extro.
verted chairman of both the Dem-
ocratic and Republican parties (a
double role). Both chairmen are
of the glad-hand, satisfy-everyone
type political school.

Denton businessmen today began
securing donations from other
businesses to pay for free tickets
to the TWU Gold Rush Carnival
for every public school student in
Denton County.
The plans were made this morn-
ing during a breakfast session
at TWU. Joe Kimbrough of the
Denton County National Bank will
serve as businessmen’s financial
chairman.
The Gold Rush Carnival. an,
annual event, will he held Oct.
11 on the campus. More than 30
entertainment booths and other
carnival activities will be includ-
ed. Funds raised go to the Texas
Woman’s University Foundation.
Following the trend set last year,
no parade will be held this year.
Instead, residents of TWU dormi-
tories will compete for lawn dis-
plays, carrying out the theme
“Carnival of Songs.” Judging will

FORT WORTH — Just as politics
makes a strange bedfellow, it also
has been a perpetual source of
comedy.
The topic is timely in “The Girls
in 509,“ at Fort Worth’s Commun-
ity Theatre, but unfortunately
there is little else of value to the
farce. The style of the comedy
is dated and the humor pretty
strained.
There are some funny lines in
the play. And after a slow first
act, the play moves along pretty
fast. Author Howard Teichmann
takes both Democrats and Repub-
licans to task and throws in a lot
of New York local jokes for the
Broadway “insiders” in his story
of two Republican ladies who re-
tire to a hotel suite for 28 years
when FDR is elected president in
1932. There are also pokes at
