denas was in to see us this morn
ing j;;1 informed us the serenade

those who delight in good music
and always attract large crowds to
the plaza from both sides of the
river.
Cotton con Li nnes to come i at
a lively rate and brings good price.
Tweutythree bales have been
shipped to date most of which
was bought by Mr. Bingham the
cottou buyer who is here from
Brown wood. This cotton wiil be
compressed at Yoakoin and will
be sent to various destinations
from there. The juice paid was
in the .neighborhood of ten cents
pur pound . A considerable amount
will be marketed here though the
acreage is comparatively small.
The Board of Trade directors
will meet this afternoon and ap-
point delegates to the ititerconnU.1
canal convention at Victoria. AH
sections are appointing their dele-
gates to tlfk convention and it
is begiunang to look like the in-
terest of the entire country has at
last been aroused. Mexico will
have a representative and several
states will be represented. A strong
delegation should be sent from
Brownsville and it should be
armed with all possible informa-
tion for the intelligent discussion
of this important question.
The important case of the Brit-
ish and American Mortgage com-
pany limited el al vs. Frank Rabb
et al was brought to filial judg-
ment yesterday. The intervening
plaintiff P. K. Blalack was award
ed judgment for the lands being
the valuable 7000 acres at Santa
Maria and over 10000 acres of
the Espiritu Santo grant known
as San Tomas. The defendant

lands at the price ;f ::o000 and
interest from date of judgment.
As the lands are easily worth from
$90000 to $100000 of course the
purchase will be made. Both par
tier showed a fair and liberal spirit
and this vexing litigation is ended
to the real advantage of all parties.
An up to dale waterworks sys-
tem in Brownsville would transform
the city from its present dusty
appearance to a veritable flower
garden. But it is worse than
useless to talk about waterworks
without sewerage. Various cities
and towns have made the mistake
of supposing that sewerage yrns a
part of the waterworks. . It should
come before. Flood the premises
as will often be done when there is
plenty of water and all manner of
disease will be the consequence.
Put the streets in proper condition
to carry oft" the surplus water
then we are ready for waterworks.
This country is low. almost wcr-
fectly level and proper drainage is
absolutely necessary for the public
health." The mosquito does not
need much encouragement to
breed and a tin can of water left a
few days will bred enough of the
pesky insects to stock the town.

ton Chronicle. The judge reports
Houston in a most prosperous con
dition and cites as an instance
proving it the fact that the Chron
icle has lately paid $25000 for a
building lot on which it will erect
a fine ofiice building the same lots
having been worth but $5000 ten
years ago aim lots in tnc same
block having sold about. four years
ago for $15000.
Why No Extension.
'
The operating executive of a
Texas road returning the construc
tion blank sent b3r The Railway
Age reports no extensions in pro-
gress or proposed by his company
and adds the following explana-
tion: "A man named Colquitt who
is in control of the Texas railroad
situation insisted that the cottou
rate from which the greater part
of our revenue is derived should
be reduced five cents on the hun-
dred pounds on June 1 last and
a man named Williams and a man
named Love who led the Texas
Legislature last session want to
make good a deficit of about a mil-
lion dollars in the Texas treasury
in one year out of the railroads.
Those are some of the reasons why
this road is making no extensions.
If those are not sufficient and you
want more I cite you to examine
the records of the circuit courts
and sec how much we have con-
tributed to the support of lawyers
fakirs and other citizens along our
line." Railway Age.

True we fill a jjrtat many prescriptions but as we have all modentffcppliances to assist us in cUaptuta-
ing them you need not wait but a fw minutes when yon come to us. And our prices are fair; but this would
prove no inducement whatever if confidence in our service was lacking. People do not hesitate at cost in sach
matters; what they ask is accuracy and reliability and they are sure pf these here.
Next time you are having a prescription filled come to ns and we will leave it to your judgment that
