On Tuesday night, December
12, in the auditorium of Stephen
F. Austin School, an outsanding
Christmas program was given,
in honor of Fathers' Night. A
very large number of parents
and friends, including many fa-
thers of the students, were pre-
sent.
The first and second grades
presented a musical playlet,
“Santa's Toys”. The third,
fourth, fifth and sixth grades
sang the Christmas carols, "O
Come All Ye Faithful”, “The
First Noel", and "O Little Town
of Bethlehem”, directed by Mrs.
Thomas Rinn. A tableau, "Ja-
cob’s Ladder” was given by the
third and fourth grades, and
“Nativity Scenes” by the fifth
and sixth grades.
This impressively presented
program, with splendid costum-
ing, will long be remembered
by those in attendance. Mrs.
Mollie Green and her staff of
teachers are to be commended
for the time and effort given to
make the evening a success, as
well as the pupils for fine per-
formances.

Members of the Progressive
Study Club convened at the
home of Mrs. Turner Jenkins on
Monday evening, December 11,
for a Christmas party which
was quite inspirational as well
as delightful.
The hostesses pinned corsages,
made of colorful ornaments on
each guest as she arrived.
Seventeen members answered
roll call with Christmas cus-
toms at home or abroad; all of
these customs differ entirely
from ours, so the group was giv-
en a new slant on the celebra-
tion of this occasion, varying
from the humble to the elabor-
ate, and from the unique to the
commonplace.
A short business session was
conducted by the president, Mrs.
John Mugge, who called upon
Mrs. Jim Gise for a library re-
port. Mrs. Harry Thiele was
named general chairman of the
book tea, with Mrs. Finley
Blackwell, Mrs. Hayden Debo-
rah arid Mrs. Rudy Gaertner as
assistants.
Mrs. Thomas Rinn. acting as
program leader, created a pen-
sive mood among all as she so
ably compared our present Ko-
i rean crisis at Christmas with

Christmas story by O. Henry.
All of the guests joined in the
singing of the old and ever
popular Christmas carols, which
gave the spirit necessary for |
this most beloved time of the
year. The entire program so
tied in with out current events
that all were inspired with the
spirit proper for Christmas —
"Peace on earth to men of
Good Will” — and with the hope
for a world with more “men of
good will.”
Gifts were brought which are
to be given later to a worthy
cause.
Christmas arrangements were
used at several vantage points.
Guests gathered around the
dining table, which was center-
ed with a crystal bowl foaming
with angel hair, colored orna-
ments and red and green ta-
pers, which burned during the
serving. Mrs. Thomas Rinn pre-
sided over the crystal bowl of
hot spiced tea, and Mrs. W. W.
White Jr. ‘served cheese and
ham loaves, one iced in white
and decorated with a red ta-
pering bow.'and the other with a
green Christmas tree. Coo,kies
cut in the forms of bells, trees
and stars were beaded with co-
lored candies. The hostesses for
this party were Mesdames P. R.
Love, C. W. Denman, Jim Gise
and Turner Jenkins.
Guests departed to meet again
January 22 at the home of Mrs
R. F. Gaertner.
