The deadlines for paying
local property taxes are ap-
proaching. The 2008 property
taxes are due on or before
Jan. 31,2009.
Mailed payments must be
postmarked by the U.S. Post
office on or before Monday,
Feb. 2, 2009. Mailed pay-
ments with a postmark date
of Feb. 3, 2009 or later will
incur penalty and interest
charges.
If property owners have
not received their school or
city tax bills, or if they have
questions, they should call
the Appraisal District Tax
Office at 361-798-5966.
Late charges begin with an
added 7% penalty and inter-
est in February. Penalty and
interest charges increase to
9% in March, 11% in April,
13% in May and 15% in June.
In July, the added interest
will be 18% and an additional
collection’s fee of 20% will
be charged. The interest rate
will continue to grow at 1%
per month after July, while
DeWitt Co.
