High eleven. 6 to 0. Although the
Tiger game hadn't been forecast as
a soft spot on the Paris schedule,
the East Texans weren’t expected
to furnish such stiff opposition. The
Wildcats were extended to eke out
on their worthy opponents.
There’s no rest for Coach Berry’s
pennant-minded team this week-
end, for they have an important
date with Bonham Friday night,
the district tussle to be staged in
Paris. With Butyl Baty, ace pass-
er of the district, and Henderson,
flashy back, out of the Paris line-
up, due to injuries, the Cats may
find the going against the Purple
Warriors a bit rough. Berry, how-
ever. has capable reserves to fill in
at the backfield slots and his
charges should add another win to
their long list.*
Cellar champions
The Warriors suffered an 18 to
0 defeat at the hands of the Gaines-
ville Leopards last week, the third
conference loss for Coach May’s
outfit, one definitely due to occupy
the cellar position in District 5-AA
at the conclusion of the season.
The Bearcats, with six victories
to their credit, including conference
wins over' Denison and Bonham,
barge back into action Friday night
when they play hosts to the Adam-
son Leopards of Dallas. The Cats
have enjoyed, an extra week of rest,
badly needed due to the crippled
condition of Coach Head’s husky
squad, and are in top shape for the
final drive of the season. Adamson
hasn’t enjoyed a highly successful
season but should be strong enough
to make the tussle interesting. The
Bearcats should take this one in
stride.
Holiday Battle
The only other conference game
comes Monday night, November 11.
when the Denison Yellow Jackets
invade Gainesville for their annual
clash. Regardless of the dope these
two teams always stage a closely
fought game, packed with thrills
from start to finish. This year will
be no exception. The Jackets show
but two victories and four losses
for the season, but their losses |
have been by close scores, resulting
from long runs, by the opposition.
On paper, they figure to be as
tough as any outfit in the circuit.
They lost to Sunset of Dallas last
Friday. _ [
’The Leopards showed continued
improvement last week when they
blanked the Warriors, 18 to 0, espe- .
cially in the initial half, when the
regular backs chalked up long
gains, turning three of these into
touchdowns. With reserves in-most
of the final period, the offensive
drives cooled of? considerably.
Game a Tossup
Both teams are busily engaged
this week in cooking up new plays
to be used in the holiday tilt and
the game now looms as a tossup.
Local officials are making ar-
