cent per annum. The merchants
National bank's bid was 5 1-4 per

help being attracted by the splendid
display of jewelry watches di-
amonds and cut glass etc. which
graces the show windows of W. A.
Rutledge the jeweler. It will
make your raowth water to gaze
on this magnificent array and the
prices are as reasonable as the
quality of the goods displayed will
permit. You can get anything
you want in the jewelry line right

Alex Vineyard had the officers
at work yesterday searching for
$1S0 which he thought had been
stolen or lost and after diligent
search it was decided to ascertain
if Vineyard didn't have the money
himself. This search was suc-
cessful and the money was found
in the lining of the sleeve of his
coat which he had on his arm.
Or course he "set 'me up."
Daily Caller.Oct 13.
Horace Iandy Frazier Mas-
sengale and Esau Laxton soldiers
of company M- were before the
corporation court this morning on
a charge of disorderly conduct
and their trial set for Friday
October 20. They were allowed
bail in the sum of $100 each
failing to give which they were
sent to jail. They are also held
as witnesses in the shooting scrape
between officers and soldiers Sun-
day morning.
Among the outgoing passengers
this morning was S. L. Dworman
who is on his way to Sonora. Mex-
ico. He will be joined at San An-
tonio by Lt. Col. George F. Gooke
formerly commanding officer at
Fort Brown and together they will
proceed to Mexico to inspect some
mining property there. The gen-
tlemen are going into the famous
Yaqui country but Mr. Dworman
says he and Col. Cooke do no ex-
pect to penetrate far into the coun-
try where the bloodthirsty Yaquis
do business and has no fear of be-
ing molested. Mr. Dwormai) ex-
pects to be absent about a month.
Part of the fishing party who
have been at Padre angling for
tarpon have returned and report
magnificent sport. Seven tarpon
were landed the largest being four
feet or more in length. Several
fine specimenij were hooked but
managed to get away. One fine
fellow outwitted his would be tak-
ers and made off with about 200
yards of line. The party consisted
of Dr. It. H. Barry and Chas. vok
Brandis of Durango Mexico; Dr.
F- J. Combe S- L. Dworman A-
A. Browne and Frank Champion
all but the two gentlemen first
named having returned. They will
try their luck angling for the silver
king a few days longer. It is a fact
not generally known that tarpon
fishing at Padre island is as good
as anywhere on the coast and when
proper accommodations can be had
this part of the Texas coast will be
the Mecca for those who desire to
hunt and fish for tarpon and others
species of the finny tribe.

Dear Sir: Shuffert Hardware
Co. Hichory N C bought a car-
load of paint; after selling it a few
months found-out it measured
seven pints a "gallon."
Returned it to the maker and
credited customers with what they
had lost from short measure.
What do you thing of a short-
measure paint? Don't you think
it half white wash? Half the
paints are part whitewash?
Go by the name: Devoe lead-and-zinc.
No whiting or clay in
that; full-measure besides. A gal-
lon Devoe is worth two of white-
wash paint. Yours truly
