"M. R. W' and
New York Dec. 19. Mrs. Mary
R.' Wright widow of J. Hood
Wright founder of the hospital
bearing his name last night re-
covered gems jewelry laces bric-a-brac
and other valuables worth
$5000 taken from her home No.
715 Fifth avenue last May. Only
very few of the articles had been
missed.
To learn that she had been rob-
bed was a very great surprise to
Mrs. Wright but not more so
than when she discovered from de-
tectives that Miss Dolores Peters
20 years old formerly a governess
in the Wright home was under
arrest charged with the robbery.
Miss Peters' arrest was the result
of her report a week ago that she
had lost a diamond ring. Detec-
tives sent to question her found
the girl living in a small furnished
room but surrounded with a
multitude of objects of great value.
Upon an umbrella witu a gem-
noticed initials
identified the
initials as those ol Mrs. Wright.
Then taking a photograph of Miss
Peters they went to see Mrs.
Wright.
Mrs. Wright remembered having
lost the gemmed umbrella and was
amazed when told that Miss Peters
had it. Visiting the room of the
young woman she identified many
articles as her own-
When confronted by Mrs. Wright
Miss Peters fainted and was
revived by her former employer
who declared she would not prose-
cute the young woman.
"My object is to keep girls out
of prison and not send them there i
said Mrs. Wright. She said the
girl had borne an irreproachable j
cuatxeter and was nigtuy accom-
plished in music and languages.
"It was so beautiful that I could
not bear not to have it" is part of
the confession attributed to Miss
Peters. The selection made sub
stantiated her claim to love of the
rare and beautiful as her tempta-
tion for she had .taken only very
remarkable gems laces and pieces
of bric-a-brac. Among the former
is a freak gem a composite of dia- j
tnond emerald and amethyst j
which is valued at $600.

Out. Not In.
Proud Miss Mabel bought an
expensive costume for herself and
having donned it she paid a visit
to her. married sister to let her
see it.
Her sister praised it and was
telling her how becoming it was
when in popped Cousin Tom.
Surprised to see her cousin
Mable asked Tom what he thought
of her new costume.
Tom answered "It's not a bad
one considering you bought it out
of a pawnshop."
Mabel's dignity was roused she
stamped her feet and let him
know that she did not "buy it out
of a pawnshop.'
Tom said "Keep cool and tell
me did you buy it in a pawnshop?"
Mabel (bitterly) How dare you
ask me that question? I tell you I
did not.
Tom moved toward the door
saying '"You must have bought
it out of one but how far out I
did not say!"
Tom had to run.
