An Idaho educator contends
that the average graduate is a
failure and denounces the present
system of education on the grounds
that it tends to create a feeling of
caste and urges that students be
required to put in a part of each day
Ieaniingsome trade. This view
whilepessimistic in the extreme is
not without elements of truth. It
depends entirely on the graduate

apt to fail. Some men cannot take a

these technical education is adapt
ed. If there were more judgment
used before the boy was sent off to
college there would be fewer fail-
ures afterwards. There is nothing
wrong with the education; but the
adaption of the individual is the
trouble. Lampasas Leader.

Money In Tabasco Peppers.
A recent number of the Seguin
Enterprise says: "Mr. J. B. Wells
of Willow Springs was in town
this week and speaking of his
pepper crop said that from five
acres he raised one hundred barrels
of tabasco peppers which he had
sold to Northern parties for $16 per
barrel. He would have raised
more but the frost cut his yield
down. The pepper grew about
three feet high and so deeply root-
ed it could not be pulled up by
hand. It is an expensive crop to
handle but it paid him well."
Mineola Monitor: I never knew
a man to be successful who was
always talking about business be-
ing bad. Never allow yourself to
dwell. on the dark side of anything.
You should refuse to talk about
depressed markets or hard times.
Leara to talk up not down. Many
business men become chronic
grumblers and fault-finders. Times
are always hard with them. Other
men get into a pessimistic rut and
never see brightness or success in
anything. It is impossible for such
people to prosper. Success is a
delicate plant and requires encour-
agement aud sunshine. The world
loves sunny hopeful buoyant
characterst it shuns all lugubrious
prophets who see only failure and
disaster everywhere. The hope-
ful cheerful men who fe; suc-
cess and longevity in their callings
are the ones who are sought after.
It is as natural to try to avoid dis
agreeable unpleasant people as it
is to try to escape smallpox or
yellow fever. Really the fellow
who predicts evil is worse than
either.

Biggest Banking Institution.
The United States postal money

institution in the country. Its

anually over a half millions

Ability Not Age.
About three years ago a railroad
company in the central west an-
nounced that it had fixed the age
limit for new employees at thirty-
five years. Several other railroad
companies promptly adopted the
idea. Now the original 6hall we
say offender? has declared that
henceforth ability not age will
count in the case of those who seek
situations and probably the imita-
tive corporations will follow this
precedent even more willingly than
they adopted the other. Youth's
Companion.
Irrigation and Gardening.
The use of extra water in the gar-
den is coming into use in the humid
states as well as in the arid states.
Wherever a stream can be turned or
a pump installed with some cheap
force to work it the use of water in
the garden is desirable. A little wa-
ter at the right time is worth more
than an abundance of water when it
is not needed. The water is an as-
surance that the crop will not fail
on account of drought. Maxwell's
Talisman.
