J. P. Withers came down today
from Llano Grande to do a little
shopping letween trains. In an-
swer to the question as to the effect
of the recent cold Mr. Withers
said no particular harm was done
as the class of truck growing in his
section was not so susceptible to
cold. He says a great deal of cot-
ton will be planted in the region
about Llano Grande and while the
tendency was to plant cane nobody
was yet ready to engage in that
industry although it is recognized
that cane is one or the coming
crops of the Lower Rio Grande
country. Mr. Withers returned
home this afternoon.
Eiler's Rip Van Winkle show
held the boards in its big tent Sat-

above the average and received a
good deal of praise. The play is
one which was rendered immortal
by Joseph Jefferson; and while
those who attended did not expect
a rendition of old Rip such as was
riven bv the famous Jefferson the
Q
play was well received. The spe-
cialties between acts were very
good and the trick bicycle riding
was the best ever seen here
