Wanted Too Much.
About three years ago the late
Judge Erastus M. Reed of Mans-
field presiding at the First district
court of Bristol at Attleboro was
confronted by a prisoner charged
with peddling without a license
according to the Boston Herald.
"Are you guilty or not guilty?"
asked the judge.
"I didn't do it" moaned the
frightend prisoner.
After listening to the evidence
Judge Reed called out: "Slip-
perygaski stand up. On the com-
plaint against you for peddling
without a license the court finds
you guilty and orders you to pay
a fine of $20."
"Oh my goodness gracious! My
goodness gracious! I shouldn't do
it. I shouldn't do it" cried the
distracted prisoner. "I should
pay you- $5."
"Sit down!" yelled the Judge.
The next thing I know you'll be
asking for trading stamps."

When Miss Jenkins after spend-
ing fifty-six years in the city of
her birth decided to buy a small
farm in the country she deter-
mined to miss none of the delights
of farming life. - A Boston paper
tells of her unique wisdom.
"I'm going to have a steady
horse and two cows and some
hens" she announced to her broth
er to whom she proudly displayed
her new property. The Adams
boy from the next house will help
me about everything. He'll drive
the cows and milk and teach me
how to harness and of course I
shall feed the hens and the little
Pis."
The little pig" echoed her
brother. "Do you propose to
keep a pig? And where I should
like to know?".
There's room for a small pig
pen back of the barn away from
the road and everything" said
Miss Jenkins calmly. "Mr. Adams
has some cunning little pigs and
that is what I wish. And I asked
the Adams boy if he thought when
the pig 'had outgrown the pen I
could find some oue to take him
and give me another little one in
exchange and he seemed sure I
could. You've no idea brother
how obliging the people are here
in the country." Selected.
Of Interest to Women
Ribbons are used effectively to
form lattice work between medall-
ions of lace or vpry open inser-
tions of lace and in some cases
they are woven right through the
lace and little bows are added here
and there.
Tuile and net dresses are some-
times prettily trimmed with long
streamers of ribbon starting from
the belt and ending in bows at the
top of the fionirce on the bottom of
the skirt.

sport?" Pro. 26:18-19.
The joke and ''in fun" are often
used to give vent to malice and
hatred or to willfully injure some
one who is innocent of any wrong
doing and after they have got in
their diabolical work claim that
they "meant no harm" "only a
joke" or "in fun" and expect
the matter to pass over and be
forgotten. But the Bible in the
above passages teach that prudence
and justice require that they should
be dealt with as an incendiary
wild Indian or murderer or as an
insane person. Of course such
jokes or sporting expressions as
reflect unjustly or untruthfully
upon one's character are meant by
King Solomon. An attack upon
another in this way is also con-
sidered disgracefully cowardly by
honorable people.
Colored Dust.
A little boy who had an inquir-
ing mind came home from the
Sabbath school one day and
meeting his mother the following
dialogue took place:
"Mamm!"
"Well my dear."
"Mamma the teaehersays peo-
ple are all made out of dustr"
"Yes my dear so the Bible
says.
"Well mamma are white peo-
ple made out of dust?"
"Yes."
"Well then I suppose colored
people are made out of coal dust
ain't they?"

The Unfortunate Druggist.
A druggist's night bell rang
loudly in the small hours and
when he went down he was met
by a placid man who asked for a
bottle of ginger ale. The drug-
gist's feelings were strong but be-
ing there he resolvea to do busi-
ness. . "A nickel extra for the bottle"
said he "will be allowed on re-
turn" and he went back to bed .
Two hours later the night bell
rang again. Again the druggist
went down.
Agaiu he was met by the placid
man.
"Here's your bottle" said he;
"gimme my nickel."
