Text of item: "My Dear Ike / I am begging you to loan me $2000.00 which I need badly to keep my Bank Balance in good shape - I had to remodel the store and air conditioning to keep up with the times as I have a long lease this cost me close to $6000.00 on the 15th I had to pay $1180.00 income too this used up my reserve of cash - left me only to pay up every cent I own for Merchandise But no balance of cash in the bank - and against the 2 worse months ahed [sic] - Now Ike do not turn me down I give you my word of honor that I will pay you back every cent on the following term - I will start to pay $100.00 on October 1st and every 60 days thereafter until..."
