It’s that time of year
again. Trees are
budding, flowers
growing, and spring
is in the air. The
eighth graders at
Grandview Junior
High have the “spring
bug” as well. I don’t
know if you have
driven by the Junior
High lately, but take a
good look next time
you do. The 8 th

Kendall’s science
class have been hard

re-landscaping the
front of the building.
What started as a
small “tidy-up”
project has turned
into a full fledged

project.
We have had lots of
help from some great
citizens in town. If
you would like to
help the 8 th graders
reach their goal of
finishing before they
leave next week,
please feel free to
call Mrs. Kendall at

Aunt Maude and Medication...
My Uncle Mort and Aunt Maude hardly ever come
into town from the thicket. They are close with the dollar,
and the 15-mile trip from the country is what they call a
“costly consideration.”
Never mind that their transportation mode is now a
golf cart instead of the old pick-up truck they drove for
years. Still, the better part of a gallon of gas is up in
smoke--sometimes literally. That was the case one day
last week when the couple stopped by.
Maude came inside while Mort jiggled wires, grous-
ing about ’em not making carts like they used to. She
made it clear to him that she had no intention of getting
back on the machine until it was smoke-free. “It’s bad
enough riding a cart down the street, but with smoke boil-
ing out, we look like a slow-moving accident looking for a
place to happen. And it’s the pits trying to explain a golf
cart breakdown on the road shoulder.” (When they do
break down, Maude, very much a non-golfer, yanks out
the only golf club in the cart. She pokes around for golf
balls in ditches, as if they are WAY out in the rough....)
Maude had a bad case of nerves, wondering if Mort
would get the cart running right before sundown. I prom-
ised her a ride home if need be. Then, I inquired about
their trip to town for the second time in a month.
“It was to see the doctor both times,” she said.
“And I’m not used to seeing doctors twice a decade, much
less twice a month. But when my nerves act up, I get con-
cerned.”
On the first visit, the doctor prescribed Valium,
explaining that one tablet should do it when she feels
nervous. “On the follow-up visit today, I told the doctor
that it works like a charm,” Maude laughed. “Whenever I
feel a smothering spell coming on, I slip one of those little
pills into Mort’s coffee....”

his tennis shoes are taken away to “time-out.”)
Advancing years no doubt will chip away at his
penchant for propriety. After all, Cuban is comfortable just
about any place in jeans and T-shirts. On those rare
occasions when dress calls for more-say a tuxedo-he
goes along. At least from the ankles up. But, his footwear
is almost sure to be tennis shoes, whether or not his black
patent lace-ups are in time-out....
