Cheerfulness Can Be a Gift
Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so
let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity; for God
loveth a cheerful giver. II Corinthians 9:7
This verse is not only to be used for tithing, but also for
all other aspects of our life. If can be a help to us if we let it.
Cheerfulness is a gift that we should give to others and
to ourselves. And being true Christians, being saved by God’s
Grace, we have the best reason of all to be cheerful! For we must
honor our Savior with joy in our hearts, with smiles on our faces,
and His words of celebration on our lips. May our cheerfulness
bring joy to those we meet each day of this New Year!
Few things in the life of a Christian are more sad, or
more absurd, than being a grumpy Christian. Our LORD and
SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST, promises us a life of abundant joy if
we accept His love and His grace. Yet sometimes, even the most
righteous among us are beset by fits of bad tempers and
frustration. During these moments, we may not feel like turning
our thoughts toward Christ.
But that is when our prayers, thoughts and even anger
should be taken directly to the Lord, before we sin willfully by
being so upset and not trusting God to handle the situation for us.
If we seek to gain a Godly perspective, and the joy and peace of
God, we must bring our burdens to the Lord! By doing this, it
will make us a Cheerful Christian. So let me ask you, are you a
Cheerful Christian? You can be, if you are fed by HIS hands,
carried in HIS heart, supported by HIS arms, guided by HIS
steps, instructed by HIS words, and warmed by HIS love. And
what is the best way to attain the joy that is rightfully yours?
By Giving Christ what is rightfully His: that is your
heart, your soul, and your life. For there is no greater joy known
to man, than to be as close to God, so as you feel His presence
and His comforting hand touching you. This brings cheer to your
heart, and you can’t help but let that cheer spread to all those
around you.
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of
God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice,
b holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable
' service. And be not conformed to this world: But be
ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye
may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and
perfect will of God. Romans 12: 1-2
That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all
pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and
increasing in the knowledge of God. Colossians 1:10
Happy New Year and Great Blessings to you all!

START THE NEW YEAR
WITH PRAYER
From the pulpit on Sunday, January 07, 2007, a
Maypearl pastor told his congregation that there was
evidence of a revival in Rio Vista. He said that he attended
his son’s JV Basketball game in Rio and was pleasantly
surprised to see a student led prayer at center court after the
game. Not only did the student lead the prayer, but he also
invited the opponents and their coaches to participate.
They did participate. In this New Year the same pastor
encouraged his congregation to “each one reach one” for
the Kingdom. A member of the congregation spoke up
when he relayed the center court prayer story saying that
the Varsity team did the same thing.
Isn’t it amazing what can happen when we reach out
to others in prayer? Isn’t it amazing what Jesus Christ did
for us? I love to hear of stories that make it seem like it’s
such a “small world we live in.”
If you’d like to know more about what Jesus Christ
did for you and how you can be guaranteed a place in
heaven, attend the church of your choice this Sunday to
hear preaching and teaching from the Holy Bible.
You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with
all my ways.4 Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely,
O LORD.5 You hem me in—behind and before; you have laid your
hand upon me. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty
for me to attain.7 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee
from your presence? 8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I
make my bed in the depths, you are there.9 If I rise on the wings of
the dawn if I settle on the far side of the sea, 10 even there your hand
will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.
Get on the Lifeboat!

Perhaps you have heard of the Titanic? If not, here
are the basic facts: Big ship. Bigger iceberg. Bad ending.
The Titanic's maiden voyage was supposed to
transport over 2000 people from England to New York. At
the time it was the largest passenger ship in the world, and
it was also among the most technologically advanced in
terms of its ability to stay afloat in case of damage. Because
of this, many believed the Titanic to be essentially
unsinkable.
Essentially, it wasn't. The Titanic struck an iceberg at
11:40 p.m. (ship's time) on Sunday evening April 14, 1912,
and two hours and forty minutes later was completely
under the waters of the icy cold Atlantic. Over 1500 people
lost their lives, and the saddest part is that the huge death
toll could have been avoided.
How? Well, let me count the ways. First, the crew
received numerous iceberg warnings that never got to the
right people. Second, when they did see the iceberg, they
turned the ship so that the side was exposed. Basically this
allowed the iceberg to rip through the hull, which is what
led to the disaster. If the Titanic had stayed the course and
hit the iceberg straight on, it most likely would not have
sank. i,
Here’s where it gets even sadder. There were enough
lifeboats to get over 50% of the crew and passengers to
safety, but the majority of the boats were only partially full
because most of the passengers didn't believe that the
Titanic was actually going to sink. Sure, there were crew
members pleading with them to get in the boats before it
was too late, but there were also other voices from people
(who didn't believe the crew) urging folks to stay aboard.
And why not? The warm cabins, bright lights, and beautiful
surroundings blinded them from the inevitable disaster...so
most of them didn't realize that the lifeboats were the only
way out until it was too late.
Have you ever wondered what it would have been
like to be on the Titanic? Let's go there for a minute. You
are on an incredible vessel going on a fantastic voyage, and
whether you are rich or poor - who cares? You get to be a
part of history. As well, you carry around a complete sense
of security, because you know this ship can't sink. But that
fateful night when you feel the Titanic shake and perceive
the confusion starting to build around you, that security
doesn't feel so secure anymore.
So what would you do? Jump in a lifeboat? Ignore
the crew? Deny that anything is happening?
Let me throw an idea your way. Planet earth is the
Titanic. It's Maker put together a beautiful vessel, but soon
after’we launched it hit a huge iceberg called sin, and like it
or not -believe it or not, we're going down. One day our
lives and this world are going to end, and just like the
Titanic, there is only one way out of the destruction. Jesus
is the lifeboat, and He has the capacity to save not 50%, but
100% of the world. All people have to do is trust Him as
, the only way out!

2 You know
But many don't, because they ignore the warnings
and the begging words of other Christians urging them to
believe Jesus when He said these life saving words:
I am the way and the truth and the life. No one
comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6)
Why don't they listen? Because there are other
voices. There's Andy the Atheist telling folks that there
really is no iceberg...it's a childish myth, and needing a
lifeboat is just a crutch. Then there's Ryan the Religious,
who claims that if you just swim hard enough, you'll make
it to New York. If you listen even harder, you'll hear other
voices claiming that it doesn't matter what you believe, as
long as you believe something, you'll be safe.
Meanwhile, time is running out, and you realize that
if the lifeboats are the only way out, then all the other
voices are wrong. Are they bad people? No...they probably
just got blinded by the apparent safety of the world around
them. Or maybe it's pride, because jumping in the lifeboat
is admitting you can't save yourself...and some people can't
bring themselves to do that.
But you did...and now you must shout back to the
ship that the other voices are a sure path to destruction. Do
you insult them? No. Do you try and tear down everything
they believe? No. What then? SHOW PEOPLE THE
BOAT! Show them that there is room. Show them that
Christ is real and really the only way, because tolerance of
other 'paths' may be cool...but you must remember that
tolerance for other paths also kills.

Focus on the Family Challenges
Christians on Abortion in the Church
Clergy Asked to Reach Out to Post-Abortive and At-Risk
Women During Sanctity of Human Life Week
Colorado Springs, Colo. - As churches prepare to
celebrate Sanctity of Human Life Week, January 21 - 28,
2007, Focus on the Family challenges clergy members to
consider statistics on abortion in the church when
addressing their congregations. A survey by The Alan
Guttmacher Institute conducted among women who had
abortions found that one in five identified herself as an
Evangelical Christian.
Kim Conroy, Sanctity of Human Life Director for
Focus on the Family, believes that it’s time for churches to
be proactive on this issue. “Every post-abortive woman
sitting in our churches needs to know that there is help and
forgiveness available—and it’s our hope during this
Sanctity Week that clergy and congregations will extend
that to her.”
as qmuyeve is os 9;1/0o/ .2qiniq 91 22073s VSVS bobnUc 6 nT
. Conroy, added, that while abortion is always a tough
topic to discuss, especially-when considering the emotions
of someone who has experienced it firsthand, it is vital that
churches understand the factors surrounding each woman’s
unique situation.
“Many women choose abortion out of fear or a
perceived lack of support, and the abortion industry is
capitalizing on a woman’s vulnerability by selling her an
abortion at the most challenging time in her life,” said
Conroy. “Justice, mercy and compassion must be at the
forefront of the conversation if we truly desire to extend
healing to the women in our churches affected by
abortion—both those who've already experienced it and
those who are right now contemplating it.”
Focus on the Family continues to be a leader in the
pro-life movement because of its many effective initiatives,
such as Option Ultrasound™. Since the program’s inception
in 2004, Focus has placed almost 300 ultrasound machines
and sonography trainings in medical clinics that meet
professional requirements. As a result, they estimate that as
many as 30,000 babies and their mothers have been spared
the agony of abortion. Through data analysis, the
organization found that 87 percent of pregnancy resource
center clients stated their intention to carry their babies to
term after a combination of counseling and ultrasound.
