Local Officials Urge
Caution this July 4th
Grandview - Both Fire Chief Frank Huggins and County
Commissioner Don Beeson are urging all county residents to use caution
this fourth of July while enjoying fireworks.
We haven’t had any grass fires around Grandview so far this year,
but the grass is dry and conditions are dangerous.” said Chief Huggins.
According to County Commissioner Beeson, Johnson County is not
currently under a bum ban, although Hill County has a seven day bum
ban in effect from June 28 - July 5, 2010.
Beeson commented, “We encourage everyone to be careful, be con-
siderate of your neighbors, and watchful of hay fields.”
Chief Huggins added, “If the wind is blowing, watch where your
fireworks land.”
The last couple of years, the Grandview Volunteer Fire Department
has provided mutual aid to area fire departments on the July 4th holiday,
but have not had problems in the surrounding Grandview area. Let’s all
watch what we are doing, use caution, and make sure to have another

For 20 months, MiMi was mine. I. spent a lot of
time trying to help her learn to live life without scream-
ing. Although her temperament made it hard for some
people to like her, she and I bonded in a big way. We
loved each other deeply.
However, CPS is not an adoption agency, although
adoptions do happen, and our own family had adopted
two foster children. But MiMi’s family finally came
through for her, and when she was 26 months old, she
went to live with a relative in another state.
Many people tell me they could never do what I do,
because they are too sensitive and would get attached. I
wonder if they really ‘get it’. Foster parents get
attached too; they are just willing to put their hearts on
the railroad track, because little children are also sensi-
tive, and sometimes they are in desperate situations
where someone has to step in and take care of them. I
wonder what would have happened to MiMi if she had
gotten a foster mother who wasn’t ‘sensitive, and didn’t
get attached’?
But attached, we got, and we had to part. It was hard
on both of us. I heard she cried for me until she threw
up. I certainly cried for her. I didn’t know if I would
make it through losing her with my sanity intact. There
were certain ‘pictures’ in my mind: how she would run
to me with her head thrown back and a grin covering
her whole face. How she followed me everywhere,
hanging onto the hem of my skirt. How she ‘helped’ me
take the clothes out of the dryer, and also ‘helped’ by
sometimes throwing the dirty clothes in. These ‘pic-
tures’ haunted me. I dreamed them; I saw them at the
oddest moments. They brought crying jags for months.
In the weeks before MiMi left, a baby brother was
bom to the birth parents of our adopted daughter, and
was removed by CPS. Although we wanted to take him,
a family member stepped forward, and he went to live
with them. But as we tried to prepare MiMi to leave us,
I began to hear from the birth family. They were think-
ing of relinquishing baby brother if we would adopt him
so that he could grow up with his sister. They were
struggling with the decision, and we had several talks.
Finally, as the day approached for MiMi to leave, I told
the family I would take the month of January off from
