We are accustomed nowadays to the translation of
speeches into many languages. In the United Nations it is
. done simultaneously through interpreters. Each delegate
wears earphones and gets the message in the language of
his choice. In New Delhi, where the World Council of
Churches met in 1961, what was said in the sessions was
likewise translated simultaneously into several languages.
On the Day of Pentecost in Jerusalem, no interpreters
were necessary. When the news of Pentecost became
known in the city, the multitude, made up of men from
all the known world, came together. Each man heard the
story of redemption in his own tongue.
Many of them were filled with the Holy Ghost and
with power Some returned to their countries and pro-
claimed the unforgettable “good news” of their experi-
ence in Jerusalem. \
