BAPTIST MISSION
GENEVA Jan. 12,—Codification
of International Law, one of the
dreams of the pacifists and inter-
national statesmen for the past half
century, becafe a step nearer when
a commission of experts met here to-
day under the auspices of th* League
of Nations for the furtherance of
that task.
The immediate program of the
commission, which is under, the
presidency of Monsieur Hammars-

to prepare a list of those interna-
tional questions and subjects that
have already reached a stage where
it is possible to incorporate them
into an interpational treaty.
This treaty would then become at
once a codified international law on
the subject, with the League’s Per-

tice at The Hague as the permanent,
tribunal for ita interpretation and
enforcement.

Key Rf. Lewis, United States at-
tomey, today said the Federal probe
i would probably end late this after.

, When questioned concerning re-
। ports that Ernest Burkhart and
John Ramsey, charged with murder
I in connection with the aage deaths
and confessed their alleged parts in
i the plot, St. Lewis refused to dis-
cus* the matter.
An Oklahoma City newspaper this
morning waid that -Burhhart-ehd-
Rnmxey hud confsxedund thur the
, Federal probe would terminate to-i
day.
Burkhart, nephew and right hand
. man of.W. K. (Bill) Hale, "king of
the Osage hills," is charged with
Hale, Bert Lawson and M. A. Bloy-
ed, as an accomplice in th* murder
of W. E. Smith at Fairfax in 1923.
HThe Smith home was dynamited.
These men ar* all under State I
charge.*.
I Ramsey, indicted with Hafe laat
Saturday, ia charged by the Govern-
, ment as the murderer of Henry Roan
second Osage victim found shot near
Pawhuska in early 192*. He is eharg-
I ed as the actual killer, Hale being
npmhed an aceessory before the fact.
. —However, no indication of the ex-
act turn in the Government’s probe
yesterday could be found today. Wit-
nesses were slipped into the jury
room and taken out before they
could be questioned yesterday-
The Guthrie Leader, newspaper,
yesterday published a* an uncon-
firmed report that the confession of
Bert Lawson, convict and alleged
henchman in the Smith murder, had
been disproved by testimony before
! the jury. Lawson had previously con.
fessed to State authorities, impli-
cating Hale, Burkhardt and Bloyed
in the crime.
Alva McDonald, former United
States marshal, will not go before
the grand jury, at least for th* pres-
ent, to deny aecustion of bribery
that he said had been fastened on
him in connection with other Osage
probes
