Text: Malt. 12:20—A bruised rood

While the tender heart of -the
.Master had been touched by the cry-
ing nend of unfortunate humanity,
and. He had healed a man with a
withered hand on the Sabbath day,
the Pharisees, who seemed to care
more for the keeping of the letter
of their law than they did for suf-
fering man, made objection to this
healing and took council against the
Christ that they might accuse Him.
Then it was that th Savior gave
utterance to the words of the above
text expressing the tender love of
God for the weak, the discouraged
and the dowa-trodden. A bruised
reed by the river’s bank barely

God Looketh on the Heart
Or this other little one may have
wilfully gone away from his fath-
er’s home to spend his time, bis tal-
ents, his substance, and even his life
itself only for self to wake up some
day to the realization that his self-
ishness has wasted his life. Man
would turn him out, and without
money and without friends, thia lit-
tory of the Gospel would triunaph
over the heartless opposition, of the
critical Pharisee.
'God Confounds Mighty
Somehow, there have been con-
trasts in so many instances in the
way God has done things and the
way man has attempted to do them,
Go,| ha* chosen .the weak more than
once that He might confound the
mighty. The preaching of the Gospel
is foolishess in the eyes of self-
styled wise men, but it is the power
of God unto salvation to everyone
that believes. Man, depending upon
his own strength, if he wants to or-
ganize a bank, will select the strong
financial leaders of his communiry.
Or if his nation goes to war against
another nation, the very choicest
young manhood of the land will be
drafted for that bloody purpose. But
God will match a David against a
Goliath any day and win the battle.
