A total of 890 boys are enrolled
in 39 scouting groups, including
478 in 16 cub packs, 331 in 19
Scout troops and 81 in four Ex-
plorer posts.
During the past year, 321 Cubs,
92 Scouts and six Explorers ad-
vanced in rank, 769 arrow points
and 324 merit bades were award-
ed and five Eagle Scout badges
and five God and Country Awards
were presented.
A total of 39 scouts and three
leaders—Atkins, Kiser and Davis
—have made reservations for the
national jamboree, scheduled for
this summer in Colorado Springs,
Colo.
Main speaker at the banquet was
the Rev. L. L. Armstrong, pastor
of the First Baptist Church.

To Speak Sunday
The Rev. Alan S. Miller, min-
uter of NTSC and TWU Presby-
terian students, will take charge
of Sunday morning services of the
new Trinity United Presbyterian
Church Sunday.
He’ll fill the pulpit in the ab-
sence of the Rev. Paul D. Young,
regular pastor of the church. The
Rev. Mr. Young will be out of
town. Subject of his sermon is
"In HU Name—Or Else”.
The service will begin at 11 a.m.
in the Jack Schmitz & Sons Fu-
neral Home Chapel.
William Henry Miller, 59, of 108
Ave. G, died unexpectedly in his
home Thursday about 6 p.m. fol-
lowing a heart attack.
Mr. Miller had been a Denton
County resident for 30 years and
was the owner of Miller’s Pie Bak-
ery at 122 Ave. G. He formerly
was in the cafe business in Den-
ton.
Funeral services will be held at
2:30 p.m. Saturday in the First
Baptist Church. Dr. L. L. Arm-
strong, pastor, will officiate. Grave-
side services will be conducted by
the Knights of Pythias Lodge and
entombment will be in Crown Hill
Mausoleum in Dallas.
Born in Collin County Dec. 2,
1900, Mr. Miller had been a life-
long resident of the state. He mar-
ried Miss Henrietta Adeline Bry-
an in Anson Feb. 10, 1921. He was
an active member of the Knights
of Pythias Lodge in Denton.
Survivors include his wife: one
son, Herschel Miller of Atlanta,
Ga.; one daughter, Mrs. John K.
Sharber of Richardson; two sisters,
Mrs. Lena Simmons of Chickasha,
Okla., and Mrs. Myrtle Holcombe
of Fresno, Calif, and four grand-
children.

SANGER (Staff) — Funeral serv-
ices for Mrs. Archie Poindexter,
56, of Sanger, will be held at 2
p.m. Saturday in the Church Of
God In Christ in Sanger.
The Rev. T. W. Johnson, pastor,
will officiate. Burial will be in
Sanger Cemetery under direction
of the Citizen’s Undertaking Co.

CORINTH (Staff) - Funeral
services for John William Cru-
baugh, 76, a retired Corinth farm-
er, were to be held today at 2 p.m.
in the Schmitz - Floyd - Hamlett
Funeral Chapel in Denton.
The Rev. John Marvin, pastor of
Denton’s St. Andrew Presbyterian
Church, was to officiate. Burial
was to be in Shiloh Cemetery in
Corinth.
Mr. Crubaugh died Wednesday
in Fort Worth. He was a member
of the Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife; five
sisters, Mrs. Jo Ann Hulse and
Mrs. Joe McElroy, both of Den-
ton. Mrs. Fred Fowler of Fort
Worth, Mrs. Birdie Lester of Dal-
las and Mrs. Effie Watson of
Denison; and two brothers, George
Crubaugh of Baltimore, Md., and
Clay Crubaugh of Denton.
John G. Bilyeu
John G. Bilyeu, a resident of
Krum for 40 years, died this morn-
ing at 10:50 in Flow Memorial
Hospital after a lengthy illness.
He was 70.
Funeral arrangements were in-
complete at press time today.
Born in Elgin on Sept. 27, 1889,
Mr. Bilyeu was a retired miller.
He was a member of the Krum
Church of Christ and the Wood-
men of the World.
Survivors include three sons,
Granville (Hank) Bilyeu of Hope-
well, Va., a former sports editor
of the Denton Record-Chronicle,
Russell Bilyeu of Lawrence, Kan.,
and J. C. Bilyeu of Denton; three
daughters, Mrs. George Atkins of
Decatur, Mrs. Clyde Rosston of
Stony and Mrs. James Reed of
Krum; two sisters, Mrs. Henry
Wade of Dallas and Mrs. Leia
Love of Paris, Tex.; a brother,
H. C. Bilyeu of Leonard: 18 grand-
children ard one great grandchild.

M. H. Garrett of 1212 Misty-
wood was credited today with sav-
ing the Root Beer Stand from se-
vere damage by fire at 7:18 a.m.
today.
Garrett, Denton’s Mobil Oil Co.
distributor, was inspecting the
company’s bulk plant at 936 Fort
Worth Dr. when he spotted smoke
from the drive-in soft drink place
across the street and turned in the
alarm.
Firemen said the blaze appar-
ently started in the deep freeze wir-
ing. The freezer and the wall be-
hind it was damaged. The stand
is owned by Jack Webb.

dent of Sanger 38 years.

A new slate of officers was nam-
ed for the Denton County Chia-
holm Trail District of the Long-
horn Council of the Boy Scouts
of America Thursday night.
New district chairman is Dr.
J. J. Spurlock, who's served as
district commissioner for a num-
ber of years. He succeeds Stan-
ley Munson, who served for four
years in the post.
Taking Spurlock's place as com-
miseioner is Bob Dalrymple, Tom
Harpool, veteran vice chairman,
remains in the post he’s been
holding for several years.
Announcemennt of the promo-
tions was made at the annual dis-
trict banquet for adult scouting
leaders, held st the St. Andrew
Presbyterian Church Thursday
night.
Special recognition was given to
Munson for his service as district
chairman, and to John Shrader,
1999 president of the United Fund,
of which scouting is a part. Each
received a gold scout statuette.
At the banquet, it was announc-
ed that five adult scouting lead-
ers completed all requirements
of wood badge training—an ex-
tensive eight-day course for ad-
ults. These men were District
Scout Executive John Atkins, and
Lewisville Lions

Show Tonight
LEWISVILLE (Special) _ Cur-
tains for the annual Lions Club
Minstrel in Lewisville go up at 8
p m. today for a two-day run to
raise funds for the chib’s summer
recreation program for communi-
ty youths.
The show also will be present-
ed Saturday night. Both produc-
tions will be staged in the high
school auditorium. A 850 bond will
be given to the holder of a ticket
to the event, said President T. J.
Turner.
With the Rev. Larry Walker, pas-
tor of First Baptist Church, as in-
terlocutor, the minstrel will fea-
ture I. A. Simpson, Ray Dollinger,
Bilk Crawford, James Wilshire, Au-
brey Polser and Bill King as end
men.
