Walker, 84, of Boyd, died at 12:10
this morning after being critically
burned in her home Sunday morn-
ing.
Mrs. Walker fell into a stove in
her home early Sunday morning,
igniting her clothes. She struggled
against the flames about 30 min-
utes before being discovered.
A son, J. L. Hatley, went to the
house where Mrs. Walker lived
alone at 7 a m. Sunday. The bed-
room was filled with smoke.
Mrs Walker told Hatley she had
arisen about 30 minutes earlier,
dressed and became dizzy as she
leaned over to light the bedroom
heater. She fell into the stove, ig-
niting her clothes.
Mrs. Walker fell across two beds
in the struggle. Her clothes start- -
ed the mattresses smoldering.
Hartley summomed a brother,
Johnny Hatley, and the woman’s
grandson, Dillard Hatley, who man-
aged to bring Mrs. Walker out of
the house on a blanket. Her clothes
were burned completely off.
She was taken to Harris Hospi-
tal in Fort Worth, where she died
this morning. Hospital attendants
said she received second and third
degree burns over 90 per cent of
her body.
Funeral arrangements were in-
complete this morning at Christian
Funeral Home in Decatur.

The building fund canvass at Denton's First Presbyterian Church
has passed the $70,000 mark.
This was announced Sugday by Rev. Martin Thomas, pastor,
who said $70,002.89 has been pledged so far over a three-year pe-
riod by the congregation of the 350-member church. This is in
addition to the pledges to the church’s current operating budget,
which is expected to exceed $37,000 for the year beginning Jan. 1.
The final tally for the building fund program is expected to be
made Friday night at the canvassers’ last report meeting.
The downtown church, at 120 S. Elm, already has purchased
a 4.2 acre site at West University Drive and Hinkle Drive. No date
has been set for the start c construction.
