District 12-A play.
With the scoring of Monty Hud-
son and Jim Cal), the Bullies won
44-42.
Bridgeport's B Team won 21-19
but the girls lost 26-22
Hudson scored 21 points to pace
the Bullies and Call added 15
The Bullies came from behind
to take the lead 22-20 at halftime.
Springtown regained the lead 33-

gridiron series matching the Ark-
ansas Razorbacks against t h e
Duke Blue Devils
Arkansas is the Southwest Con-
ference champion and Duke is
champion of the Atlantic Coast
Conference.
The Cotton Bowl Classic was in-
augurated on January 1. 1937, with
TCU defeating Marquette 16-6.
The members of that TCU team
have been invited to be guests at
the 1961 Silver Anniversary Clas-
sic. The TCU team included such
stars as Sam Baugh, Davy O'Bri-

Clasic — TCU and Texas s i x
times apiece, Rice four, Arkansas,
SMU and Texas A&M twice each,
and Texas Tech once.
Alabama, Georgia Tech, Syra-
cuse and Tennessee have each
played twice in the Cotton Bowl
Other teams that have appeared
in the Classic are marquette, Col-
orado, St. Mary's, Clemson, Bos-
ton College, Fordham, Randolph
Field, Oklahoma A&M. Missouri,
LSU. Penn State, Oregon, North
Walker of SMU, Jim Brown of Sy-
racuse.
Memorable sports history has
goals and 86 free throws. He is
again leading the free throw per-
centage with 77 per cent. He had
81 per cent at season’s end last
year.
Smith and Don Holt are leading
in the field goal percentage. Smith
has hit 115 of 225 for 51 per cent
and Holt has 54 of 131 attempts
for 41 per cent, Gammon has
36 of 77 tries for 47 per cent to
Carolina, Kentucky. Mississippi,
Navy and Air Force.
Some of the grid sport’s great-
est names have performed in the
Cotton Bowl game, including Whiz-
zer White of Colorado, John Kim-
brough and Joe Routt of Texas
A&M. Lou DeFilippo of Fordham.

average drop from 20.6 to 19.8. He
finished season play last season
with a 23.8 average, the highest
in the state.
The 6-6 senior is further ham-
pered as he is battling the flu and
will miss action this week.
Harris brought his average to
13.2 after falling to 12.7 last week.
The cagey little scrapper scored
22 points in Smith's absence and
sparked the Broncos to an easy
84-57 victory.
Sophomore Mike Gammon, play-
ing in his first complete ball
game, scored 28 points against
Poly to bring his season total
to 109 points for 15 games. The
smooth operating youngster hasn't
scored in five of the 15 games but
neither has he been allowed to
play much. He scored 61 of the
109 points in three games.
All the starters now have over
100 points this season with Harris
again second to Smith. The 5-8
senior has 224 points on 69 field

Denton took advantage of two
easy games with Fort Worth Poly
this week to increase its averages.
The team increased its shoot-
ing percentages of field goals
from 40 to 41 per cent. The team
scoring average also increased to
67.2 for 17 games.
Individually, three of the Bron-
co starters increased their aver-
ages. Dan Smith, who scored eight
points in the first game against
Poly and didn't play Thursday
night fell below a 20 point aver-
