if you happen to hear a
"Cherrio" instead of the cus-
tomary “Hi” on South Plains
College campus, it just might
be Pat Kaltwasser giving her
friendly greeting.
Pat, whose birthplace is Lon-
don, England, came to SPC this
year from Farwell, Tex. She is
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Salter Kaltwasser and is a re-
sident of Sue Spencer Hall.
Her mother, a war bride, met
Pat’s father on a train near
London. The meeting, a casual
one, came about through the in-
quiry of a location in London
which Pat’s mother, a native of
the large city, could answer
without any difficulty.
The couple married in London
in March of 1944. Pat was born
in April of 1945 and about seven-
teen months later, the family
moved to the states, settling in
Farwell, where Kaltwasser fol-
lowed the occupation of farm-
ing.
An out-door girl reared on a
farm, Pat likes horseback rid-
ing and sports of all kinds, es-
pecially basketball.
She was captain of the girls’
basketball team while in high
school, and also played volley-
ball.
The most exciting time in her
life came when she was named
to the all - district basketball
team of Farwell High School.
This was a goal she had work-
ed toward. Her father, a track
team member during his school
years, had a great influence on
his daughter and her love for
sports. “I wanted daddy to be
proud of me,” said Pat, in all
sincerity, and “it was a wonder-
ful experience for both of us.”
Pat spent six weeks in Lon-
don two years ago, along with
her mother and sister and bro-
ther, Vicky, 13, and Kevin, 10.
She visited there at other times
with her maternal grandmoth-
er and other relatives.
According to Pat, she is al-
ways glad to be back home.
“London is such a large city
and too many people,” said Pat.
She found the English people
to be more aloof than the Am-
erican people.
She noted the superior quality
of merchandise and the crowds
of people in the business hous-
es. She noted too that girls and
women wear very little make-
up in London. She enjoyed the
visits to the seaside and the
countryside, which, according
to Pat, are the most beautiful
in the world. She attended chu

Watch Your English
We'll begin with a box and the plural is boxes;
But the plural of ox is oxen, not oxes.
Then one fowl is a goose, but two are called geese,
Yet the plural of moose should never be meese!
You may find a lone mouse or a whole nest of mice,
But the plural of house is houses, not hice!
if the plural of man is always called men,
Why shouldn't the plural of pan be called pen?
If I speak of a foot and you show me your feet,
And I give you a boot—would a pair be called beef?
If one is a tooth, and a whole set are teeth,
Why should not the plural of booth be called beeth?
Then one would be that and three would be those,
Yet hat in the plural would never be hose:
And the plural of cat is cats, and not cose!
We speak of a brother and also of brerthren.
But though we say mother, we never say metheren:
The masculine pronouns are he, his and him,
But imagine the feminine, see, shis, and shim!
So English, I fancy, you all will agree,
Is the funniest language you ever did see!
