OPEN THE DOOR TO THE SAVINGS HABIT
Bowers Blabs
Everyone enjoyed a nice long
Weekend two weeks ago be-
cause the faculty took off for
Corpus and had a big time, it
seems that a history instructor
kept the rest of the faculty a-
wake on the bus by running up
and down the aisle twirping
rather loudly. I guess that some
had a better time at the big
party than others. A
600 pound yellow canary says
"C-H-I-R-P!"
Dr. Baker is a man of many
Interests and takes an interest
in everything. I do hope, how
ever, that he isn’t serious a-
bout bull riding. He does have a
nice certificate stating that he
did attend a class in bull riding
at Southwest Texas Junior Col-
lege.
Frank Hunter has reprimand-
ed me for the lack of mention
of cowboys in my column, par-
ticularily him. Well, Frank has
finally done something worth
mentioning. I just don’t know
What it is!
Ever since the American Med-
ical Association made their
statement that smoking caused
cancer, thousands of men and
Womne alike have taken their
nicotine fits out on cigars and The campus speed limit is 15
pipes. This isn’t really so bad miles per hour! Obey it!

Odessa Falls
In Easy Till
Only seven seconds elasped
before the ball game was de-
cided Tuesday, February 25, a-
gainst Odessa. At that point
Turnbough hit his first basket
and South Plains was never be-
hind in the game,
SPC led by as much as
twelve points and took an eight
point lead into halftime. As the
second half opened, South
Plains tried to pull Odessa out
of its zone and failed in the pro-
cess to score for four minutes.
During this time, Odessa cut the
lead to 39-35.
At that point South Plains ex-
ploded to a 60-37 lead bef o r e
Odessa recovered. The last
five minuutes saw Odessa chop
the lead down to 65-52, the final
score.
Turnbough led the Texans
with 13, followed closely by Ford
with 12 and Patton with 11.
Pope hit for 9, Swinburn 7, Sar-
chet 6, Hall, Anderson, and Mil-
stead all had 2 and Patterson
hit a lone free throw to round
out Texan scoring. .
South Plains hit on 23 field
goals and 19 of 29 free throws
compared to 22 field goals and
8 of 13 free throws for Odessa.
Of the 35 fouls called, only 13
were against the Texans.
This win assures South Plains
of its first winning season in
basketball since the college was
organized.

Give us the opportunity to say "yes”
but Vee Rains, Lynn Roddy,
and Wanda Williams are smok-
ing up all of the boys’ cigars.
For the very best in Easter
fashions,, shop at Arnold’s.
Our history teachers seem to
have been the cause of all the
excitment on the trip to Corpus.
One other history instructor
however, claims his trip was
ruined because he wanted to go
watch the wind and the waves
crash together. Everyone to
their own kicks I always say.
The last two days of last week
were near chaos because almost
nothing was accomplished as
natural born leader was
gone. It was cruel of him to just
take off and leave us stranded
like that. Ater all he is the
one that said he was the only
natural born leader at S.P.C.
Some of us have it and some of
Ms don’t I guess.
It has taken Kent Moore al-
most two years to get started
but he has finally brok-
en through and started to date.
He is even going steady now.
I have heard that the attrac-
Hon is just fascination. He is
fascinated because she smokes
cigars. The cigar kick is getting
bad.
Speaking of cutting in line in
the cafeteria, Julane is about the
world’s worst. Her helpers, Jac-
kie and Susie aren’t too bad at
the trick either. I think that peo-
ple that do silly things like cut-
ting into lines must have some
sort of an Inferiority complex
and think that doing that puts
them ahead in some way. May-
be if they are in that shape, we
should just let them be, reckon?
Our Texans have done a good
Job this year and we should be
proud of them. Since basketball
season is about over, lets get
to work supporting the tennis,
baseball, rodeo, track, and al
the other teams on campus.
For those of you that don’t
believe in joining nudist colon-
ies, try Arnold’s for that spring
clothing jag.
