The South Plains Texans play-
ed a magnificent ball game Fri-
day, Dec. 18, by beginning the
Christmas holidays with an 85-78
victory over the Tech Freshman.
It was the first time that mighty
Tech had fallen to a junior college
this year.
Tech jumped into the lead when
Wiggins hit a field goal for two
points. Dwight Haley then tied the
game at 2-2 when he made the first
score for the Texans. The Texans
took the lead five times during
the first half.
Several times the game was tied
during the first period. Once, when
the game was tied at 27-27, Mel
Davis shot a free throw and made
the score 28-27. Lewis then broke
loose for Tech, shot a field goal,
and put them in the lead again.

The Vulgars hit a high note last W iggins 11, Mahon 6, Evans 6,
week and defeated BSU 47 to Cunningham 4, Johnson 2, and
Vic Hines sank two free throws
and the score was tied at 29. At
the end of the first half, Tech,
who was substituting five men at
a time, had pulled into the lead
43-38.
The Texans broke loose in the
second half, allowing Tech the lead
only twice. The rest of the time the
Texans were in the lead, with the
score being tied only four times.
With 8:34 minutes left to play,
the Texans had a 71-60 lead over
the Tech team.
In the final minutes of play,
Vic Hines and Elmo Vickers each
sank two free throws from a Tech-
nical foul. The Texans had a 79-78
lead with 1:10 showing on the clock.
The clock read 28 seconds when
the score was 83-78. David Pape
then sank a couple of free throws
with 6 seconds left in the game.
The final score was 85-78.

To those students and instruc-
tors concerned, this may come as .
a complete shock, but as with this
issue, this writer bids farewell
to the Chatter Box and turns it
over officially to a fellow journa-
list.
As we know, the basketball team
is presently leading theWJCC, and
since this is true, I shall devote
much of this column to them, the
backbone of oar P.E. department.
Congratulations to our two Ind.
basketball players. Tom scored
ten points against West Texas the
other night and Jerry is current-
ly leading the freshman recruits
with a total of 64 points.
Elmo and Melvin have a detour
sign set up in their room. They
have no comment on how it got
there, but there are strong indi-
cations that their girls had some-
thing to do with it. There is no
detour sign on the way to Arnold’s
however. A complete clearence
sale is now in full swing. Shop
there before the final.
Not since the L iz Taylor-Richard
Burton love scandal has there been
so much speculation on love. SPC
now has its own love affair in-
volving Dave and Gale. Tell us
more...Gale! What happened on the
trip home the other night, Dave?
Ledbetter puts knots on girl’s
heads. Just ask Barbara (Corky)
Dunn. Speaking of Ledbetter, there
are rumors going around campus .
that he’s engaged. Tune in week
after next for the exposed results!
Dennis Patton is really coor-
dinated-he blows babbles while
dribbling down the basketball
court... Vic Hines skips classes
to rest up for the games...
Why don’t you'all shop Arnold’s
for the best values in town? There
is a giant clearance sale going on
now. Haley simply can’t hit the
basket unless he checks to make
sure Cheryl is in the audience.
There is no audience at Arnold’s,
shop and brouse at leisure...Open
a charge account....
Ron Phillips scored 21 points
the other night over at Borger.
Congrats, Ron,..Say, have you been
practicing your “behind the back”
passes? Coach Powell will be
pleased!
Booker skipped the assembly
Friday to play a fast game of
pool. Coach Powell caught him...
Anyone for a game of pool, Book-
er?
Neff and Risinger are presently
being treated for “benchblisters”
by Butch, Rumcrs are that they will
be working them off in the near fu-
ture.
Buckle your seat belt coach,
don’t worry, Marshall’s Ouiji
(Wee-gi) Board says that the Tex-
ans will win the Conference! Char-
lie Whitt is very sad that Sarah
Cato got campused. His heart is
utterly breaking in two. Oh, well,
don’t worry, he’s got another girl
lined up... Right, Cheryl?
The cowboys had a pretty nice
dance the other night and were
really suprised when Zela and I
won the Waltz contest — but not
nearly as suprised as we were...!
I wonder why Gordon Keene and
Ron Chambers caught a fast flight
to El Paso? Was this just a regu-
lar Sunday flight, or what? A few
days will tell!!
hat's this about your duck
counting Butch? Please be care-
ful when you’re driving that bus...
the conference title Kat stake!
Late flash! Be sure to snop
Arnold’s great big sale...’
