up from Point Eabel last evening.

Ilano Grande is a visitor in the
city today.
Dr. S. K. Hallam was a passen-
ger on the train this morning for
Ia Donna.
Miss Amie Cotton of Houston
arrived 'last night to visit Pudge
and Mrs. Noah Allen.'
Ion C. Hill left this morning for
San Antonio and other points to
be gone four or five days.
W. J. Collins came down from
Hidalgo Tuesday to spend the
holidays with Mrs. Collins.
Parke R. Longwbrth came down
from Mercedes to spend Christmas
with his Brownsvillp friends.
Dr. W. J. Dougherty arrived
from Hidalgo Tuesday night and
spent Christmas with relatives
here.
Perry Clark and son returned to
titpir Tinme in Harlineen after
spending Christmas here with
friends.
Mrs. W. S. Tuell and daughter
Miss Tuell who are stopping at the

THB DANCE
One of the most enjoyable events
was the informal danca given by
the young men at the opera house
last night. It was a great success.
Over fifty couples participated

and the dancing continued until
1:30. The music by twelve musi-
cians was fine.
Traffic back and forth between
Brownsville and Matamoros was
particularly lively during yester
day and last night the ferry land-
ings and surroundings having as-
sumed an unwonted look of gay-
ety. Indeed it has been remarked
by many that this has been an un-
usually pleasant Christmas season
and as the various gatherings have
sung during the festivities "The
air is filled with gladness."

late arrivals at San Benito from
Bremen Ohio are visiting Browns-
ville. They were among the party
that visited Point Isabel yesterday.
W. F. Sprague returned to his
his home at La Coma ranch inSHi-
dalgo after spending Christmas
with relatives here. Mrs. Sprague
and little Harriett will remain in
town until after New Year-
Hon. John T. McGowan of Min-
neapolis who is a member of the
Minnesota state senate is a visitor
in Brownsville having arrived last
night. He will spend a few days
looking over the country about
here.
J. L. Faisans arrived from Gal
veston Tuesday night to spend
Christmas with Mrs. Faisans. He
is still located at Galveston but
enjoys a visit to Brownsville oc
casionally and his many old
friends here are glad to see him
again.
Wilfred Kenedv left today for
his ranch La Parada in Hidalgo
county after spending Christmas
with his sisters in town. He was
accompanied by Conductor Jacobs
and Dr. J. K. Combe who wil
' SDend a day or so on a hunt at La
Parada.

SanTienito. accompanied by their
son and wife Mr. and Mrs. A. E.
Purvis and their daughters Misses
Kattie C. and Annie Purvis were
amone the Christmas visitors td
Brownsville and Point Isabel.
They went to the Point yesterday
and enjoyed a sail over the beauti
fnl. Lasruna Madre bay as far as
Tarpon Beach and were charmed
with their outing. All except the
elder Mr. Purvis returned home
today he having remained in town
to attend to 'business matters.

Christmas Tree at
the Chicago Gardens.
The children as well as their
parents in and around the Chica
go Gardens were treated to a very
nice entertainment Christmas eve
night at the school house given by
the Presbyterian Sunday School.
On the occasion the building
was tasily decorated in flowers and
evergreens and in the upper end of
the house was a good sized Christ
mas'tree laden with pleasant sur
mises for all the children. None
were forgotten as even the young
est child Mr. and Mrs. Troight's
two days old son (Albert) received
his pro rata of presents
The eatertainment consisted of
music recitations and a short ad
dress by the pastor Rev. Mr. Fos
ter. The program being complet
ed and th presents handed out
the audience was dismissed about
9;30 by Rev. Foster with a bene
diction.
