The deepening recession is
slowing price increases at the
wholesale level at the same
time it dampens demand for
goods and services,
economists say.
In advance of today's
release at the latest figures
on inflation at the wholesale
level in November,
economists were predicting a
slower increase than Oc-
tober's 0.6 percent gain.
Edward Yardeni, chief
economist and vice president
of E.F. Hutton & Co. Inc.
brokerage firm, looked for a
small 0.3 percent climb in
November prices.
"Business is lousy and
commodity prices are com-
ing down." he said. "The
recession is doing some good
on the price inflation front."
