Mike Mitchell scored 18 points as

a class AAAA school near Fort
Worth, during the 1985-86 school year
before accepting the Canyon In-
dependent School District position.
Wartes will coach against his alma
mater next season because of the
1986 University Interscholastic
League realignment.
Before the realignment, Canyon
High School’s opponents in District
1-4A were Borger, Pampa, Dumas,
Levelland, Lubbock Estacado, and
Lubbock Dunbar.
The realignment of District 14A,
announced in February by the UIL,
added Hereford and Frenship to the
district.
The varsity football contest bet-
ween Hereford and Canyon is
scheduled on Friday, Oct. 24, at
Whiteface Stadium at 7:30 p.m.

The Boston Celtics won in Boston
Garden. What else is new.
With Larry Bird taking charge
down the stretch, Boston defeated
Milwaukee 121-115 on Wednesday
night, the Celtics’ 25th straight home
victory this season.
“We don’t like to lose at home,"
said Coach K.C. Jones.
The 25 straight home triumphs
moved Boston within two of the NBA
record, set 36 years ago by the Min-

STRICT CONTROL
French wines ore the most strictly
regulated in the world. All the best
and most famous are covered by "ap-
pellation controlee" lows. These
lows do not qualitatively rate the
wines as in Germany. They primarily
are the government's guarantee that
the wine in the bottle precisely cor-
responds to what the label says it is.
They guarantee denomination of
origin, grape variety, yield per acre
and alcoholic strength. The French
also regulate vinification techniques
and vineyard practices, laws cover
appellations as broad as the whole of
Bordeaux or as small as a 2-acre
vineyard in Burgandy. Eighty-five
percent of French wines imported to
this country are "oppellotion con-
trolee" wines.

Visiting Houston made a few
changes to make up for the loss of
Ralph Sampson, and they worked
well with the other Twin Tower,
Akeem Olajuwon, scoring 27 points
and pulling down 21 rebounds. Eight
of those points came in the final two
minutes when the Rockets drew
away.
Sampson, the Rockets’ 7-foot-4
center-forward who had averaged
19.5 points a game, injured his back
in a fall at Boston on Monday night.
He is expected to miss at least one
more game.
76ers 112, Hawks 103
Moses Malone reached another
milestone for Philadelphia, passing
the 11,000 mark in career rebounds.
He grabbed 11 to reach 11,006, and
added 32 points.
Surprisingly, it was Philadelphia’s
first victory of the season against
Atlanta. Until Wednesday, only the
Hawks with four victories and the
Los Angeles Lakers with two had re-
mained undefeated against the Six-
ers, who now have won nine games in
their last 11 starts.
Dominique Wilkins scored 31
points for the Hawks.

Junior guard Dennis Hopson
scored 26 points, including nine
straight field goals. Hopson keyed a
12-2 spurt late in the first half that
put the Big Ten Conference team in
control. Senior 7-footer Brad Sellers
added 17 pointsand 12 rebounds.
Wyoming, which finished 24-12,
started out strong and jumped to a
12-6 lead. The Cowboys were sparked
by 6-foot-4 sophomore Fennis Dem-
bo, who finished with 27 points and
seven rebounds.
But with Hopson hitting from the
outside and Sellers working inside,
the Buckeyes kept pounding away.
They took their first lead at 19-18
midway through the half and com-
pleted their 12-2 streak with a 29-22
lead.
Wyoming trailed 35-28 at intermis-
sion and cut the margin to four points
early in the second half, but high-
scoring center Eric Leckner drew his
fourth foul 2% minutes into the
period. With Leckner out of the
game, Hopson moved inside and
teamed with Sellers, the tournament
MVP, to help Ohio State steadily pull
away. Hopson made 12 of 17 shots
while Curtis Wilson scored 10 for the
Buckeyes.
Les Bolden scored 14 for Wyoming,
of the Western Athletic Conference,
but Leckner had only six before foul-
ing out.
