some kind of country music

think. I have to admit I was
not able to bring myself to
watch it. Or bring anyone else,
for that matter.
I briefly glanced at the pa-

Help me out here, as Phil
Donahue used to say. I saw no
mention of whether “Did I

for the title alone.
Until I heard that title, I
had not even been aware that
the multitalented Marv Albert

had been nominated for an

A promising event
Nations capital being invaded by Jesus freaks
Who knows how many American males of all ages and
races will be gathered together on the Mall in Washington,
D.C., today to give praise to the Almighty and to seek for-
giveness for their sins against Him, their families and each
other? Well, God knows how many. That’s Who.
Regrettably, we can know in advance that many elements
in the national news media will look askance at the over-
sized prayer meeting and dismiss it as the rantinga of the
radical right wing of the Republican Party.
Unfortunately, politics has gotten mixed up with religion
in this country, but it is by no means confined to one party.
The “religious left” has led the way on a number of social
and economic issues in this century and has been applauded
from the sidelines by much of the press.
Seeking forgiveness from the Eternal rather than grasping
for power from the dark spiritual ruler of this sin-scarred
world is what the Promise Keepers movement should be all
about, if it’s not already. That doesn’t mean the men “stand-
ing ih the gap” lose their right to vote or to run for office or
to make a good living. It does mean that professed followers
of Jesus Christ should know better than anyone that politics
is ultimately a dead end and economics is concerned strictly
with what is material.
Neither pursuit can fill the “God-sized hole” programmed
into every soul’s heart by the Creator. Without communion
with Spirit and Truth, all is vanity and a striving after wind.
Many of the Jews of His time wanted to make Jesus their
earthly king. But He patiently explained to a “wicked and
perverse” generation that His kingdom was not of this world.
There is no more chance of a political solution to the prob-
lems of the United States of America in 1997 A.D. than there
was in Israel in 29 A.D.
In fact, only about 40 years after the time of Christ, that
nation’s capital was in ruins. The arrogant amoral usurpers
of power in Washington, D.C., should not expect to reign
forever without a similar fate being visited upon them.
We expect to hear a few great verses of scripture from the
A Old Testament invoked numerous times today in our nation’s
capital. But if somehow the Promise Keepers omit these
appropriate words, we will print them here. Every American
citizen who is concerned about the future of this country
should consider committing to memory this passage of the
Word which is regarded as having been spoken to the people
of the Book by the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Hide
these words of the Lord in your hearts, dear citizens and
brethren. They are from II Chronicles 7:14.
If my people who are called by my name humble them-
selves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their
wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive
their sin and heal their land.
