It is with a feeling of regret that I
have to resort to this means of thank-
ing you for the beautiful watch that
was presented to me by you.
I would much prefer to tell each and
everyone of you personally how much
I value your esteem, and the sincere
sentiment that prompted you to sur-
prise me so agreeably.
Let me assure you that there is
nothing you could have done that’could
have pleased me more, than to give
me something that will remind me
hourly of the pleasant time I spent
among you. Your spontaneous action,
and the spirit with which you have
given, is worth more to me than the
gift itself, and it is with a feeling of
sincere gratitude that I thank you.

Mr. Dignowity was presented with
a beautiful gold watch, the gift of the
foremen who attended the classes, on
Wednesday evening. The watch was
presented by Mr. Powell who told the
instructor in a few well chosen words
just what his work meant to the Fore-
men, and just how the foremen felt
toward the instructor. Mr. Dignowity’s
letter of thanks is published else-
where in this paper.
cerned, for both of them ate every-
thing on the table and then tried to
take off all the San Jacinto Inn’s best
Silverware. Fortunately most of the
purloined articles fell out of their
pockets when they rose from the table.
I There was no formal program of any
kind, no speeches or anything. It is
probably just as well that no speeches
were planned because Noisy Greer and
Noisy Craig kept up such a running
fire of chatter that no one could be
heard any way. No dissatisfaction was
voiced by the .boys, and the general
opinion seemed to be that they could
probably arrange to attend any subse-
quent dinners that might be arranged.

Mr. Reaper, Safety Director, spoke
before the Houston Section of the Am-
erican Society of Mechanical Engine-
ers at the Electric Building in Hous-
ton last week on the subject of
“Handling of Sour Crudes from a
Safety Standpoint.” Mr. Reaper’s ad-
dress was well attended by the gath-
ering, especially those interested in
industrial safety.

has practically been completed, ac-
cording to an announcement made by
Homer Wilson, Chairman of the Ath-

The completion of this work will
mean that the final arrangements for
entertaining the Omaha club have
been attended to, and that every-
thing is in readiness for their arrival
about March 1st.

The Foremen Conferences, which
have been conducted four times daily
for the past five weeks by Mr. H. Dig-
no wily of the University of Texas,
closed last week.
Everyone who came in contact with
the work in any way expressed them-
selves enthusiastically in its favor.
Mr. Dignowity proved himself to be
an exceptionally capable teacher, and
from the very outset “sold” everyone
of the “pupils” the idea of the Confer-
• ences. The result was that every fore-
man in the yard got a pretty good
view of himself “as others see us.”

Humble Club Host
To Ball Players
The Board of Governors of the Bay-
town Humble Club gave a dinner on
Thursday evening, February 9th for
the Baytown Oilers. Between courses
the ball games of seasons past were
played over again, and speculation was
rife as to the games to be
played during the coming season. All
the boys were in fine fettle, and had
fine appetites. Probably Jack Shires
ities.)
The following are members of the
Guild: Bert Boudloche, Velma Embry,
Olivia Gentry, Tillie Moers, Beatrice
Prather, Theresa Wilson, Elizabeth
Matthews, Georgia Haden, Sally Ne-
vil, Marie Moers, Ben Wilson, and Mrs.
Irene Cooper.
