Pete Swanson’s son, Pete Jr.,
brought his tenth Jap plane
down last week, and his dad
couldn't help bragging.
But I got to thinking about
Pete Senior: how he hadn’t
missed a day at the war plant
since the war began; how he’d
worked overtime and Saturdays
and Sundays; how he’d kept
himself in shape, been temper-
ate and sensible, so that he’d be
at work clear-headed, bright
and early every morning.

original thirty underwriters do
not propose to constitute them-

but rather the reverse. Quite
obviously, it was necessary first
to raise a sizable budget in or-

Killed in Crash
PYOTE ARMY AIR FIELD,
Texas, Aug. 9.—Two men were
killed and six other crew mem-
bers escaped when a B-29 Su-
perfortress crashed and burned
approximately - twelve miles west
of Wink shortly before midnight
Saturday, Aug. 4, it was an-
methods being used.
“Never before have I witnessed
such enthusiasm in-Kermit,” said
Alberts. “There seems to be
a general revival, of civic spirit,
fed by a determination on the
part of all to build a city second
to none in all West Texas.”
Maples, one of the prime
movers in this project, said he
was sure the foundation had been
laid for a program of enduring
progress, and said he felt he
could speak for all the mem-
bers in saying the green light is
set—and the word is forward!

Maury Alberts, chairman of the
building committee, gave a re-
port on the progress of the com-
mittee. The building fund has
increased steadily but is still
short of the goal. Plans are be-
ing formulated to reduce the cost
of the building from $50,000 to
$25,000 by omitting the base-
ment and building entirely on
top of the ground. The members
agreed to this plan.

“No doubt,” he continued,
“there will be a low minimum
of dues set in order to permit
all classes of businesses to par-
ticipate. Of course, as the mem-
bership increases, dues for all
will be lowered, and in time it
is hoped all memberships will
be equal in cost, and certainly
equal in voice from the very
beginning.” ।
Oscar Maples and Maury Al-

committee, report there was very
little personal solicitation done
to raise the budget, saying a
majority of the pledges were
