a new son, Roy Dale, born Dec. 15
at the Groom Hospital. Grandpar-
ents are Mr. and Mrs. Roy Clark
of Groom and Mrs. Frank Patter-
son of Amarillo.

CLOSING DAYS ANNOUNCED
The City Tailor Shop will be
closed next Monday and Tuesday,
Dec. 24 and 25, but will be open
for business Wednesday morning,
Dec. 26.
The Groom Drug will be open
every day until Christmas it has
been announced.
The City Barber Shop will be
open until Christmas, but will be
closed for several days following
Christmas Day.

Mrs. Oran D. Smith will present
a Christmas recital in the sanc-
tuary of the Methodist church.
Sunday evening at 7 o’clock, the
Chancel Chapel Choir will present
a program entitled “Memories of
the Manger,” a Christmas cantata
by Yale and Nolte. An additional
feature will be a film shown dur-
ing the singing of the cantata.
The public is invited to attend
all of the above-mentioned pro-
grams at the Methodist Church
this week end.

Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Inmon who
live on a farm in the Jericho com-
munity had to go out of the duck
raising business this week when
they sold their flock. No water
for the ducks Bessie reported.
Farmer Ernest Lamb has been
going around lately whistling the
tune, “I’m Dreaming of a White
Christmas.” Wishful thinking of
this type is endorsed by all our
dryland farmers.
S. K. Roach, a self-made man,
was telling a group of friends the
other day that he had worked all
of his life. For the past several
years Mr. Roach has been active
in the real estate business and
has been doing some farming. Pre-
vious to his real estate career he
was a cowboy for many years. In
early youth Mr. Roach said he did
lots of odd jobs and going back
to his infancy he claimed that dur-
ing the first two years of his life
he was busily engaged in milking
and spreading fertlizer.
Jack Babcock of Groom has been
employed as the new manager of
the Panhandle Wheat Growers
Elevator at Panhandle, Texas, and
assumed his duties the first of the
Mrs. Corinne Kay who operates
a gift shop at her home plans to
close the shop Saturday evening,
Dec. 22, and spend the holidays in
Dallas visiting her daughter, Mrs.
O. M. Eaves and family.
Mrs. Kay says she does not in-
tend to open the gift shop for bus-
iness again. She was injured in
an automobile accident about a
year ago and the conditiona of her
health makes it necessary for her
to discontinue her business ar -
ities.

Friday evening, Dec. 21, the
Methodist Church will offer their
Mrs. Willie O’Neal has been re-
appointed as Carson county audi-
tor by District Judge Luther Grib-
ble of 100th district court.
Her salary was set at $4,600 a
year, the same as it has been dur-
ing the past two years. Mrs.
O’Neal was appointed county aud-
itor in January 1941, by District
Judge Jack Allen when Carson
county was attached to the 84th
district, and has held the office
since that date.

The Groom Public Schools will
close Friday afternoon for the
Christmas and New Year holidays.
School will be resumed on Wed-
nesday morning, Jan. 2, it has
been announced. A Christmas pro-
gram will be presented at the
school auditorium Thursday eve-
ning, Dec. 20, at 7:30 p.m., and
the public is invited.
St. Mary’s Parochial School will
observe the same holidays as the
public schools and will present a
Christmas program Friday eve-
ning, Dec. 21 at St. Mary’s audi-
torium, beginning at 7:30 o’clock.

the Producers Grain Corp.
For the past several months
Jack Babcock has been manager
of the Farmers Supply Associa-
tion wholesale and retail motor
fuel station in Groom. Previous
to his employment with the serv-
ice station he worked for several
years at the Wheeler-Evans Grain
Co., and the Groom Wheat Grow-
ers elevator.
Mr. and Mrs. Babcock plan • to
continue residing- in Groom for
the next few weeks Jack said.
T. E. Jones has been employed
as the new manager of the Farm-
ers Supply and took over his
duties Dec. 15.

FOR HOLIDAY SEASON
Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Barkley and
daughters, Cheryl and Patricia,
left Sunday for their new home
near Hatfield, Ark., where R. E.
will operate a garage, and farm.
Hatfield is on Highway 71 between
Texarkana and Fort Smith, ten
miles south of Mena, Ark.
Becky McCoy arrived home
Thursday from Abilene Christian
College to spend the holidays with
homefolks.
Mrs. Leo Looten and daughters
were Amarillo visitors Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Benton Moreman
attended a church meeting at Bu-
chanan Methodist Church in Ama-
rillo Thursday.
Mrs. H. B. Terbush and Mrs.
Bob Corbin and children visited
relatives in Borger Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Louie Jones vis-
ited relatives in Oklahoma last
week end. Mrs. Lovis Jones of
Mountain View returned home
with them for a visit.
Mr. and Mrs. S. K. Roach vis-
ited relatives at Shamrock Mon-
day.
Dorothy Kuehler and Adeline
Weller visited in OKarche, Okla.,
over the week end and Mr. and
Mrs. Vincent Rother accompanied
them home for a visit wth rela-

Mrs. O. E. Dawkins of Ottawa,
Kans., writes that Mrs. S. C.
Drake is growing weaker each
passing day. Mrs. Drake, one of
Groom’s pioneer residents, moved
to Ottawa about a year ago with
her brother, O. E. Dawkins and
Mrs. Dawkins. She has been con-
fined to her bed for a long period
of time.
