Denton’s effort to secure indus-
try is spearheaded by a Chamber
of Commerce committee compos-
ed of Stan Munson, chairman,
Corwin Carnahan. Jim Rogers,
Doyle Copus, Morris Kibler, Rich-
ard Haywood, H. R. Pemberton
and John Holmes.
There are solos, duets, quartets
and ensemble numbers of varying
interest.
The comic opera situation has
an aristocratic lady and her com-
panion disguising themselves as
house maids at a country fair.
Patsy Owens, a petite, sweet-
voiced soprano, sang rather petul-
antly as Lady Harriet, who gets
bound into house work under the
name Martha. Nancy, her com-
panion, was sung nicely by Gleni
Wartes.
As Lionel. Lady Harriet’s trou-
bled lover, there was Arley Reece,
a big-framed tenor who cut a
good figure but was uneven vocal-
ly. Reece has power, but does
not yet know how to place his
yoice, possibly because he's Just
out of high school. Joe W. Figg
played a dour Plunkett, the weal-
thy farmer, and did some of the
best singing of the evening.
Herbert Lee Masaey supplied
comic relief as Sir Tristram, La-
izing seemed uneven.
Despite these qualifications, how-
ever, we are inclined to adhere to
Church in Fort Worth. The niece
of Mrs. 0. Y. Hardin of 710 Bell,
Mrs. Brewer died at her home in
Fort Worth Thursday following a
lengthy illness.

Burglarized
Two Denton firms — the Hall-
Mart Drive-In Grocery and the
Denton Country Electric Coopera-
tive—were burglarized Thursday.
Twenty cartons of cigarettes, a
transistor radio and an adding
machine were stolen from the
drive-in grocery on Fort Worth
Drive.
Police Sgt. Bob Mills, the in-
vestigating officer, said entry
was made into the grocery after
someone “kicked in" the rear
door.
A quantity of copper wire was
stolen from the electric coopera-
tive on West University Drive aft-
er someone broke out a window
in the warehouse.
Thursday night was the third

County in 1881; he died in 1911.
Survivors include two sons, W.
M. Day of Alma, Okla., and L B.

Charlie Thatcher, both of Ponder,
and Miss Piner Day of Oklaho-
ma City; eight grandchildren, 12
