SAC Hopefuls
Are Declared
By Marty McLaughlin
On May 1, the elections for class
officers of St. Edward’s university
will be held. Hopefuls for senior
class officers include representa-
tives from seven different parties.
It seems, however, that six of the
parties have only one candidate
in the running and the remaining
party could only fill three of the
positions.
Candidates include: for presi-
dent—Jim Kulleck, Mike Prehn,
and Nick LeJeune. Also on Le-
jeune’s party are Mel Bulot for
vice-president and Mike Fuze for
secretary - treasurer. Senatorial
candidates are Jerry Schubel,
Larry Mauer, Tom Bentley, and
Jim Wright; each running alone.
In the spirit of participation,
the freshman class has fielded two
full parties. On the PAL party
ticket running for president is
Al Cisneros; for vice-president,
Fred McNair; for secretary-treas-
urer, Jim Barajas; for senators,
Steve Pedro and Jeff Burns.
Filing late Wednesday night on
the Liberal party ticket was Steve
Burns, running for president;
Richard McIntyre for vice-presi-
dent; Cornelius James for secre-
tary-treasurer; Tom Cirkal and
John Shea for senators.
Action party and the Full-Time
party square off for the election
of junior class officers. Members
of the Action party are: John Ba-
rajas for president, Mark Walter
for vice-president, Weldon Mikulik
for secretary - treasurer. William
Roberts and Dan Riordan are Ac-
tion party senatorial candidates.
Full-Time party candidates are
Jim Wight, Bill Thurin, Phil Gat-
tuso, Tony Turk, and Doug Su-
therland. They are running for
president, vice-president, secre-
tary-treasurer, and senators, re-
spectively.

Stressing the changes wrought
upon society and individuals,
Brother Raymond Fleck, CSC,
president, addressed the St. Ed-
ward’s university student body at
a rare general assembly in the
University dining hall Wednesday
morning, April 22.
Brother Raymond explained
how events in intercreedal rela-
tions were changing for the bet-
ter and that interracial justice
was hastening to the fore. He also
mentioned President Lyndon
Johnson’s “war on poverty” and
the coming “Kennedy round"
talks in Geneva as examples of
changes in society.
Indicating that the individual
must learn to cope with these
changes, he said that once we
have a grasp of the unchangeable
principles of life, we can confront
the changes of society.
After; Brother Raymond’s
speech, Father Maurice Johnston,
OP, director of student affairs,
explained that the purpose of the
assembly was to help improve
communication between student
and administration and he hoped
that these assemblies would be-
