Tuesday, January 17, will go
down in history as the day W
Lee O'Daniel was inaugurated
governor of Texas before 60,000
enthusiastic spectators in the
University of Texas athletic sta-
dium at Austin.
Plans for a cavalcade of auto-
mobiles from Mills County to
Austin, as projected were aban-
doned in favor of allowing each
driver to choose his own route
and time of departure
Last week’s rains delayed only
slightly the work on the big
bridge which the Jenson Con-
struction Company is building
over the Colorado River between
Goldthwaite and San Saba
Mr. and Mrs. Mack Duffy
Kessler of Sanderson arrived
partment is expected to issue
the work order for the project
next week.
The front end of E. Kline’s
car was smashed at eight a. m.
Wednesday, when blinded by
the sun, he ran Into the rear
end of the school bus from Car-
adan, driven by D. A. Conway.
None of the children in the bus
were hurt, and it was undam-
aged. The accident occurred on
Parker Street near Walter Fair-
man’s house.
The FFA and 4-H Executive
committee met in the County
Agent’s office, Jan 18. The date
of the FFA and 4-H Fair was
set for February 24 and 25.
A meeting of the Wildlife
Planning Board called by Earl
Sanders, Regional Manager, was
held in the District Court Room,
Friday, January 13.

Rev. Ray V Mayfield, Jr. is
the new pastor of the First Bap-
tist Church in Goldthwaite.
Brother Mayfield was extended
a call by unanimous vote of
the church- on Sunday, January
10 He accepted the call and
notified the pulpit committee of
his action last Sunday morning.
Wayne Poe of Star, member
of Mills County 4-H Chapter,
carried away the grand champ-
ion ribbon for his exhibit in the
4-H and FFA fat calf show at
the Mills County Livestock
Raisers' sixteenth annual show
in Goldthwaite, Monday and
Tuesday of this week.
Mills County Commission
Company had a record year in
livestock sales for 1953, accord-
ing to S. D. “81g” and Malcolm
Jernigan, owners and operators
of the firm, selling 272,446 head
of sheep, goats and cattle in the
twelve month period.
Miss Frances Janet Soules,
University of Texas student
from Goldthwaite. Is a new
member of Pl Lambda Theta,
honorary education society. She
is the daughter of L. H. Soules
of Goldthwaite
