Despite perfect picking condi-
tiona, the Mills county cotton
crop it now appears will be very
uttle larger than last year’s rec-
ord low crop. To date only about
175 bales of cotton have been
ginned in Goldthwaite and in-
dications are that the total will
not exceed 300 bales
Application has been made by
the MUla County Hunting and
Fishing Club to the State Game
Commission for permission to
transport fish from tanks and
streams about to go dry to Lake
Merritt. Property owners who
have such fish are requested to
notify the Lake Warden, John
Meadors, if they are willing for
the lake to have the fish
Beryl Keaton. son of Mr and
Mrs. C. B. Keaton, had the mis-
fortune of falling and breaking
his left arm at the elbow Sat-
urday while riding his bicycle
in front of Jack Long's filling
station on Fisher Street He was
rushed to the Medical Arts Hos-
pital, at Brownwood, and was
brought home Sunday evening.
Barton Keese s house, east of
the railroad tracks. was almost
completely destroyed by fire
fire Sunday about 7 a m. The
fire was caused from a spark
from the kitchen stove flue All
the furniture and household
articles were saved

50 YEARS AGO-

The receipt of cotton at the
yards here}as been heavy this
week, but the price has been
distressingly low, ranging from
6% to leu than 8 cents meet of
the time.
The receipts at the Farmers
Union yard up to yesterday af-
ternoon were 1,370, against 1.950
for the same date last year The
receipts at the public yard up
to the same time were 2,085,
against 1,597 on the same date
last year.
W H Leverett ana wife were
here yesterday from Caradan
and made the Eagle a pleasant
call He informed us that one
of his mules attached to a buggy
ran away with the vehicle yes-
terday morning breaking the
buggy badly
Mr J L Ratkin of Big Valley
died at his home in that com-
munity Sunday morning at an
early hour, after a long illness,
although he had only been con-
fined to his bed only a few
weeks
J W Hill was here from
South Bennett Wednesday driv-
ing a new Metz car, which his
son Wilis recently purchased
and it is a beauty.

Jane Evans, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Eutah Evans of Prid-
dy. exhibited the grand cham-
pion Hereford Steer in the Tem-
ple Junior Livestock Show last
week Alfred Glynn Tiemann,
son of Mr and Mrs Frits Tie-
mann, also of Priddy, exhibited
the reserve grand champion
Hereford Steer in the same
show ..
Mrs. Evelyn L. (R. M.) Thomp-
son. 84, suffered a stroke early
Monday and died peacefully at
her home in Goldthwaite Tues-
day morning. Funeral services
were held Wednesday at the
First Methodist Church. Mrs.
Thompson was a former editor
and publisher of The Goldth-
waite Eagle and a former presi-
dent of the Texas Woman’s
Press Association.
Miss Vicki Koleber, bride-elect
of Ralph E. Massey, of the U. 8.
Navy, was honored, with a
“Morning Party,” Saturday.
September 25. In th T. M. Glass
home, with Mrs. Glass and Mrs.
John A. Jackson as hostesses.
Mr and Mrs. Dale Reid are
proud parents of a son, born
Monday, September 27, at 8:38
a m., in Memorial Hospital,
Browwood. He weighed seven
pounds and nine ounces and has
been given the name Robin Al-
len.
He has two sisters, Judith
Anne and Benna Von, to wel-
come him home Grandparents
are Mr and Mrs C. L. Mash-
burn of Goldthwaite and Mr
and Mrs P R Reid, also of
Goldthwaite.
Mrs V C Bradford and Mrs.
E B Gilliam, Jr, honored Miss
Vicki Koleber, bride-elect of
Ralph Massey, D. C. 3 of U. 8
Navy, with a bridal shower tea
in the Gilliam home, Wednes-
day afternoon, September 22,
from four to six o’clock
Miss Sarita Howard, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs Clem Howard,
has entered school at Tarleton
State College.
