mission in a precedent-setting
proclamation against open-sea-
son hunting in state-owned riv-
erbeds of Uvalde, Dimmit and
Zavala Counties. The Commis-
mission acted because many

entry, then trespassed and
poached on private lands ad-
joining the rivers, cutting fen-
ces and killing livestock.

Methodist Church
A service of carols and can-
dle lighting will be presented at
the First Methodist Church in
Goldthwalte, Sunday night at
7:00 p. m., according to an-
nouncement by Rev. Philip
Riley, pastor. The pastor will be
assisted in the program by the
youth fellowship of the church.
A musical Christmas pageant
will be presented, Wednesday
night, December 23, by the
children and youth Sunday
School class division.
Everyone is most cordially in-
vited to attend the two pro-
grams.
Second In Zephyr
Cage Tournament
The Star Tiger boys’ basket-
ball team showed up good in
the Zephyr basketball tourna-
ment there Thursday, Friday
and Saturday.
The boys won their first two
games with Lometa and Zephyr
with scores of .44-25 and 38-35
respectively. In the final game,
however, Talpa Centnnial over
powered the boys team 57-31,
leaving them in second place.
In the girls’ bracket, Star was
unable to place when the girls
lost their second game to
Zephyr 47-38.

was held last Thursday night in
the American Legion Hall

guest speaker of the evening

The banquet included an in-
troduction by Coach Jackie
Williams of the 1964 Eagle foot-
ball squad and special recogni-
tion of the boys making hon-
orable mention all state and 9A
all district team
Those receiving special recog-
nition for honorable mention
all state were Jim Childress
and Tom Duren.
Thirteen Eagles were named
to the 9A all-district team se-
lected by league coaches of this
area They were: Owen Yarbor-
ough. Phil Duren, Bob Frailer
Jimmy Carter, Johnny Ham-
mond. Jimmy Ball, Jim Chil-
dress, Ronnie Hill, James Cook,
Tom Duren, and Bobby Roun-
tree Charles Blackburn and
Bill Miller received honorable
mention.
Also included in the program
was the presentation of appre-
ciation gifts to head coach
Jackie Williams and assistant
coach Russel Nalley from the
Eagle football fans of th* com-
munity. Hollis Blackwell made
the presentation.

ced the appointment of Bobby
Lee Wilcox as deputy sheriff.
Wilcox will assume his duties
after elected officers take their
oath of office and are sworn in
for the newly elected terms of
office.
County Judge Cecil Egger an-
nounced Monday that the new-
ly elected, and re-elected, coun-
ty officers will be sworn in on
Thursday, December 31 Their
term of office starts on Friday,
January 1, 1965
Wilcox is a native of Mills
County, the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Arthur Wilcox.
He graduated from Goldth-
waite high school in 1954. He is
married to the former Patsy
Bramblett, the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs L. B. Bramblett of
Goldthwalte. They have four
children, Delilah Lee, 7, Debra
Denise, 4. Troyce Dale, 20
months, and Patricia Joyce, 9
months of age
After graduating from high
school Mr. Wilcox did his mili-
tary service and he has been
engaged in farming and ranch-
ingFor the past two years he
has been associated with the
Goldthwalte office of the Boll
Conservation Service as a con-
servation aide.
ATTEND OFFICERS’
SCHOOL IN AUSTIN J
Sheriff elect Brooks and his
deputy to be Wilcox attended
the Texas Department of Public
Safety school for sheriffs and
their deputies in Austin Novem-
ber 30 through December 4
The five day school of in-
structions was held at the
Highway Patrol Academy. The
series included 47 hours of lec-
tures by well known and exper-
ienced officers, covering a vari-
ety of topics and subjects on
law enforcement duties and ac-
tivities.

At Zephyr Tourney
The Priddy boys' basketball
team took third place in the
Zephyr tournament at Zephyr
Thursday. Friday and Saturday
of last week.
The girls won their first game
against Pottsville 37-31, but
they came out short against
Talpa Centennial 47-38 This
loss automatically put the girls
out of the tournament
in the boys first game the
Priddy Pirates lost to Pottsville
by a very slim 54-51 margin.
Leading scorer for Priddy was
J W Schlee with 16 points
In th* second and third
rounds Priddy increased their
pace to win consolation by
knocking off Gustine 43-28 and
clobbering Lometa 89-17 Rob-
ert Priddy led the scoring in
the second game with 14 points
and J W Schlee and Glen
Greele had scores of 22 and 21
respectively in the last game
