LONDON 1AP1 - Britain an-
nounced today postponement of
installment payments totaling
$175.8 million—due at the year-
end—on postwar American and
Canadian loans
The action was disclosed by
Chancellor of the Exchequer
James Callaghan in this written
answer to a House of Commons
questioner:
"The government have decid-
ed to take advantage in the de-
ferment provision in the finan-
cial agreements dated March 6.
1957, in respect of the 1964 in-
stallments and have advised the
two governments accordingly ”
Inder the 1967 arrangement
the British have the right to
postpone installments of princi-
pal and interest repayments on I
the loans These installments
then are to be tacked on to the
end of the period of the loan,
which now runs to 2002
