Saturday's fourth annual Alvin Rotary-
Club Frontier Day celebration when the
entire community turns back the clock
to the days of the old west.
Frontier Day will begin with a 10 a.m.
parade that at this point promises to be
the biggest and best in the history of the
celebration.
A record number of parade entries are
already signed up to roll down the
parade route to an audience which
Rotarians hope will exceed 20,000.
As soon as the parade, is over, ac-
tivities in the downtown headquarters of
Frontier Day will begin in earnest with
events peaking that night with a big
street dance.
In between the anticipated record
setting parade and the street dance that
night. Alvin Rotarians have planned a
variety of events to entertain children of
aU ages - from tricycle races to human
wheelbarrow races.
Rotarians have been getting ready for
weeks for the three gunfights they’ll
stage at high noon, 2:30 p.m. and 4:30
p.m.
One thing is for sure, when the guns
start firing, the noise will dominate the
Frontier Day setting of downtown Alvin.
In addition to the many events which
are scheduled, there will be many booths
offering a variety of foods and drinks.
There will be a tent erected to house a
ingo parlor throughout the day and

Joe, a third grader, was
describing to his friend Jan the
difficult day he had:
• 'Well, it all started on the bus.
I just couldn’t find who I wanted
to sit by I finally got behind this
neat-looking girl, but she
wouldn’t look at me, so I pulled
her hair She screamed. I jumped
up and ran! I knocked books
everywhere plus I knocked BiUy
out of his seat...
By the time the bus driver got
through with me I was late and I
had to hurry Well, you know
when you first come in and the
floors are so shiny how fun it is to
run and slide? Well, I slid down
the hall, just as Mrs. King turned
the corner. ...
“It was terrible! We both were
staggering around trying to keep
from falling on the floor. ”
"After all that happened I
figured I needed a restroom
break. Well, you know thqse nifty
swinging doors we have in
restrooms now . . Yeah, I did!
About the time I swung out,
Frank walked in. I won’t be
surprised if of Frank comes to
school tomorrow with a cast on
his arm.”
After Joe finishes his sad story
a panel of third graders discuss
his problems and reason that Joe
should learn to obey rules, which
are there, in one panel member’s
words, "So people won’t get hurt
and bother other people. ’ ’
