High School. After
graduation, he served in the
U.S. Navy until June 1946
After leaving the service, he
pursued an associate in arts
degree from Lee College and
graduated in 1949. In 1948 he
married the former Mary
Alice Wood. They have one
daughter, Paula.
Since that time, Webber has
earned a bachelor of science
degree in music from Sam
Houston State University in
1950, a master of education
degree in 1955 from the
University of Houston, and a
doctor oi philosophy in higher
education administration
from the University of Texas
in 1970
Webber was employed in
the Brazosport School system
in 1950, remaining there for 17
years. He served as junior
high school band director for
five years and as junior high
school principal for 12 years.
From 1967 until 1972.
Webber was an "absentee
husband and father.” He
attended UT in Austin for
three years, then worked as
academic dean at Bee County
College for two years, while ~
his wife and daughter con-
tinued to live in Freeport
In order to rejoin his family,
Webber looked for. a job in
Brazoria County and accepted
the position of director of
continuing education and
evening school programs at
ACC in 1972.
Webber said he feels his
past experience in education
and his dissatisfaction with
the "Use of standard -
education to solve non-
standard problems” equipped
him to tackle the job of im-
proving the college’s con-
tinuing education program
it has been a pleasure
working with the most viable
portion of higher education."
Webber said "Continuing
education helps the com-
munity college become what
its name implies - a college
that can respond to the needs
of the community."
Webber describes watching
.the growth of the college as
being “a very fulfilling ex-
perience* He feels his con-
tinuing education program
played. an integral part in
convincing community voters
to approve the $8 million bond
issue in 1975.
He has also seen his
programs grow. The number
of continuing education
programs offered has con-
tinued to increase throughout
the years. Also, a number of
noncredit programs have
