vitation is also hereby extended to all
citizens of Texas, whether farmers,
merchants, hankers or professional men
to meet with us March 6 and present
suggestions for the safety of our great
cotton interests.
The final value of the great cotton
convention held at New Orleans in Jan-
uary, must depend upon tne effective-
ness of work we have to do in this and
other cotton-growing regions of the
Routh within the next few months.'
This weighty responsibility must be
discharged by the ofttcera or the South-
ern Cotton association, supported and
aided by the cotton growers and the
business interests of tne Routh. The
Texas division of this association rep-
resents some 3,000,000 bales of the total
crop, and we must take an advance*!
position In protecting and developing
the great money crop or this section.
We propose for Texas a business or-
ganisation of farmers, merchants and
other business interests. We desire to
unifv these professions tn behalf of
cotton. The programme outlined at
New Orleans broadly comprehends
every Interest connected with cotton.
The deliberations of the New Orleans
convention have already added more
than 15 to every bale of the staple
owned by the South Jan. 23. This in
creased value represents an enormous
sum for any large cotton-growing
county. It has added to the value of
Grayson ebunty cotton more than
1100.000.

Matter of Redueing Expenses Din-
eussed-N at li lag Done.
The various railroads comprising the
membership of the joint car inspection
bureau of this city held a lengthy
meeting yesterday in the parlors of the
Worth hole). The object of this meet-
ing was to devise ways and means of
reducing the expenses of the bureau.*
After a long discussion of the matter
it was announced that nothing was
done. Those who attended the meet-
ing. which was presided over by H. C.
Van Buskirk, general master mechanic
of the Denver, were: W B. Minton,

At no time during the present session
of the legislature has there been more
than a few officials at Austin at any
one time. The general attorney* of
the various roads are excepted when
this statement is made, for the reason
that a majority of the general attor-
neys spend their time at Austin con-
tinually during sessions of the legis-
lature. _
Right now the railroads are en-
deaeroring to defeat the passage of the
Williams intangible asset bill, which is
before the senate. Every road in the
late has eombihed in this fight, and no
stone is being left unturned to prevent
the enactment of this measure into a

The bankers in session at New Orleans
adopted resolutions distinctly endors"

Southern Cotton association as above
stated, and gave it financial support
by guaranteeing at least 11,000 for ear h

among farmers and business men. The
state officers elected at Austin, Feb. 21
pursuant to the calf of the New Orleans

ised persons qualified to receive funds
intended for (lie support of this cotton
association. There is no other associa-
tion of national scope working in the
interests of the cotton grower and the
cotton trade, all temporary organiza-
