Waxahachie, Texas, Nov. 2.- -{Speclal.)
Five thousand postal cards bearing an
address from th* Democratic executive
committee of the county are being sent
to the voters this week urging them to
go to the polls next Tuesday and vote.
Special emphasis is given the marter
of increasing the county’s convention
vote for the next two years.
The Republicans of the county will
have a final rally at the courthouse in
Waxahachie tomorrow afternoon , at 2
o’clock. A number of short speeches
will be made An appeal has been sent
to the Republican voters of the county
to go to the polls Tuesday and vote the
Lyon ticket straight.
Longview, Texas. Nov. 1.— (Special)
vague impression has existed in the
iinds of many that the ole red hill
country has been lacking in her loy-
alty to Joseph Weldon Bailey, junior
United State* senator from Texas. But
could one who has entertained that im-
pression have been in the eity of Loong-
view today and could he have seen
the almost unprecedented warmth of
the overwhelming reception which was
accorded the man from Galnesville by
4,000 Democrats from Gregg and other
countie* of East Texas, that impres-
sion would have been dissipated. Am 1
whatever faltering opposition has ex-
fated in this county in now silenced
and those few who have cherished ahi-
mosity in the past are either converted
I or now deem it advisable to hold their
.peace. There has been a large per
(cent of the Loongview and Gregg county
•Democracy which' has paid little heed
।to the slanderous charges which have
(been afloat concerning Senator Dalley,
but who have nevertheless desired. In
the interest of farhess to the senator,
to hear him refute the charges and ex-
plain the calumnious accusations away.
There are many others in this county
who have never even listened to the
charges, but who have merely desired
to hear the senator deliver an address
for the sake of hearing him speak.
There have been a few who flitted here
and there, hither and yon, on the street
corners, and other places, repeating the
slanders which have been afloat with
malicious intent, their sol® and only
aim being to satisfy personal spleen.
And it is safe to say that all of the
two former classes mentioned are to-
night the friends and warm supporters
of Senator Bailey, while the other class
is silenced effectually. Indeed, after
Senator Halley had concluded his ad-
dress, some of thn stated publicly
that they were somewhat mistaken in
their position, and admitted that they
had materially wronged the junior sen-
ator.
Even Senator Bailey’s nearest and
dearest friend* In this section were sur-
prised at the whirlwind demonstration
of today. There has been nothing to
compare with it, at least for many
years. The way in which the people
stood thick upon the sidewalks, In the
windows of storehouses, on the veran-
das of their homes, and at every point
of vantage to gain a view of the dis-
tinguished Texan, must have convinced
the few enemies of Mr Bailey who re-
side here that their attack upon his
integrity and loyalty to his constitu-
onCy has been of no avail.

irmy already in the city and by 1 p.
n. the city appeared as if it was be-
eiged.
When Mr. Bailey arrived he was
undled into an artistlcally decorated
arriage which led a procession in-
cluding other carriages, decorated
floats, and a brass band. The band
‘mmedlately struck up a stirring air
ind the cheering of the crowd began
ind from that time on the cheering
vas practically continuous. Very lit-

house was reached. There were those
’her«~ who desired to -return to their
homes at certain hours snd Senator
Jailey desired to assist those In ac-
omplishing their desire*
Mayor G. A. Boenhetm made the ad-,
iress of welcome in a happily worded
peech and then introduced Ras Young
of Longyiew, who also welcomed the
senator, to Gregg county, assuring hfmn

Senator Bailey came forward he was
greeted with thunderous applause He.

His address was practically the same
In substance as those delivered at other
points over the etate. although he
stated some features more Impressively
and dwelt upon them longer He went

minutely and seemed to hold.his audi-

nessee properties can. He also took
up the McFadden charges against his
congressional record and disposed of
them satisfactorily and created Jong
applause. Mr Bailey's peroration was
beautiful and impressve and at the
close the applause was almost over-
whelming it appeared as if every one
of the dense crowd gathered was cheer-
ing.
At the conclusion of the address Hon
T. D. Coupland read resolutions in-
dorsing the senator, although there
were many there nrha could not see the
stand owing to the standing crowds and
owing to the cheering could no”hear
the resolutions being read.

the speech were: G. A. Bedenheim,
mayor: John B Howard, Ras Young,
M. L. Cunningham, 8. C. Forman. L. D
