County Probate Judge Roy Hof-
heinz announced today.
At Hofheinz’ request, the last
of 300 guardians and executors
of estates in probate court has
filed a report showing investment
of all available surplus funds in
Series E war bonds. The response
was 100 per cent.
“I intend to continue the policy j
for the duration,” Hofheinz said.
“The funds will soon be well

HOUSTON (UP)—Justice of
Peace Ben Moorhead returned a
verdict of death by strangulation
today in the death of Shirley Jean
Pettit, infant daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Jack Pettit. The baby
crawled off a bed while Mrs.
Pettit was visiting a neighbor and
was smothered between the wall
and the mattress.
AUSTIN (UP) —State police
today completed tabulation of
accident statistics for the first
quarter of 1942 and reported a
total of 378 automobile fatalities
for the three months.
The total was 64 fewer deaths |
than for the corresponding period |
of 1941. There were 315 accidents
resulting fatally to one or more
persons, a decrease from the 393
of the previous January-April
period.
AUSTIN (UP)—Illegal employ-
ment of 406 Texas children in 89
establishments in violation of the
fair labor standards act was
reported by President Homer P.
Rainey of the University of Texas
in a “Chi idron’s Week” radio
broadcast.
Rainey gave the children’s
bureau of the U. S. Department
of Labor as authority for the
statistics.
“All child labor is not injuri-
ous,” Rainey said. “In fact, part- I
