The late Major General Frederick
Funston left no will and his estate, con-
sisting of a life insurance policy for
320,000 and personal effects valued at
"not to exceed 310,000" will go to his
widow and three children. This was
revealed today when Mrs. Funston
filed a petition for letters of adminis-
tration.

away. More interesting romances can
be found in commerce and the indus-
tries than in many tempermental fields,
in the glorious West -In 1850 under the
glmour of the golden sunlight pros-
pectors in large numbers plodded with
ox team and desert caravan in search
of nature's precious metal, gold. The
hardships of pioneer days have been
the subject of thousands of volumes
but few of them have done justice to
the soul searching terrors of Death
Valley. It is a seething caldron of dry
burning sand, no moisture and great
heat; peopled with lixards, chuckawal-
las and rattlesnakes and offered no fit
habitation for man or beast. Death
Valley offered a short cut to the gold
fields and the bleaching bones of thou-
sands of human beings and ox teams
gave mute testimory to the horrible
death of those poor unfortunates. Pri-
marily bent on the search of gold, these
prospectors in Death Valley sought
mostly water and water was not to be

ed a two-day conference here to plan
closer unity among its various groups,
particularly for the congressional cam-
paigns of next year.

A parade in Austin Monday is one of
the eatures of the four-year tour ofj
the celebrated 20-Mule Borax Team.
This historic cavalcade, the last of its
kind, breathing of memories of those
days before railroads were built in the
desert, is 176 feet long, and is driven
with a single jerk-line. "Borax Hill,”
the famous teamnster, is celebrated as
a jerk-line engineer in the desert and
today is one of the few of his kind
alive. The wagons weigh 8000 pounds
each and the rear wheels are eight feet
high. One team has a capacity of
thirty tons of ore and the wagons to
be seen here are thirty-three years old
and were actually used in hauling ore
from the Death Valley Mines of the
