Hon. W. D. Yett, while he has been
in the race for Mayor but a week, has
made a very active campaign and
climaxed his week's efforts last night
with a truly effective speech at the
Courthouse. He was introduced by
A. J. Zilker in a highly commendable
manner. Mr. Zilker also introduced
the several other -candidates for city
office who had taken advantage of
Mr. Yett’s invitation to share the time,
and as he introduced each new man
he added a word of praise in the in-
terest of Mr. Yett’s candidacy.
Will Haye Business Administration.
Mr. Yett, whose motto in all walks
of life seems to be "Honesty is the
best policy," stated plainly that he
did not claim to know definitely the
condition of affairs as regards the
city’s business at present, that if he
were elected Mayor, however, he
would find out all conditions, whether
they were good or bad. If good, he
would naturally sanction them, he
said; if bad, he .would certainly set
himself to righting them with expe-
diency. He plainly stated- that he
would give to Austin's municipal af-
fairs a purely business administra-
tion. one which, his friends claim, he
is eminently qualified to set forth and
follow out. He assured his hearers
that they would constantly receive
full and satisfactory information as to
what goes -on in the official affairs
of the City; also that the people as
a whole should have ’ more voice in
what is done than now. This state-
ment was heartily welcomed and
brought forth applause and commen-
dation.
Candidates' Comments.
It was reported by friends of Dr.
Yett’s candidacy that at last night's
meeting the candidates who spoke
from the same platform as he were
unanimous in the opinion that he
would be excellent material for Mayor
of Austin, and that they knew he
would have the moral courage to car-
ry into effect many constructive de-
partures from present day methods of
transacting the city's business.
