Invitation, because there was no date
fixed for its acceptance.
Senator Sturgeon thought the invi-
tation should be accepted, and men-
tioned that invitations had been ac-
cepted from other cities without debate,
among them being Houston, Galveston.
Fort Worth and others.
Senator Cofer said that he would
favor accepting the invitation of Fort
Worth for next Saturday and Sunday,
whereupon Senaitr Stargeon wanted to
know why he opposeli accepting the
Dallas invitation fur Saturday and Sun-
day. Senator Cofer replied that lie
thought the week following would be
best because of certain intimations
made.
Senator Sturgeon reminded him that
many other intimations had also been
made in the senate but which had not
materialized into fact. Senator Cofer
thought that by adopting his amend-
ment that no comment could be made
Senator Senter then explained that
no date had been set by the Dalias citi-
zenship for the acceptance of the ia-
vitation, but that he had offered the
resolution because of the pending sine]
die resolution for March 13 and other
reasons. He spoke of the legislative
days at the State Fair and wanted to
know whether or not any member oi
the legislature had been unduly influ-
enced at these affairs. He explained
the benefit to be derived in shaping
legislation by, a visit to the different
sections of the state and that the pur-
pose of this invitation was to bring
the legislature in contact with the peo-
pie and not to influence legislation.
Senator Meachum wanted to know if
Senter would be willing to secure a
floor report on the bill and bring it
ap for disposition in the senate to-
morrow morning, and thus preclude
any possibility of the trip to Dallas
influencing any members of the senate
upon the race track bill.
Senator Senter replied that he would
not; no, a thousand times no; that he
gefsed to barter or trade in thia mat-
ter, nor even to consider this bill in
connection with the invitation of the
city of Dallas. He then eulogized
