The Hamburg presented.a pretty ma-
rine picture a» .ne .teamed down the
river in the limpid sunlight which
touched the color, of her code flags
which fluttered from the halyards of
fors and mainmasts. Racing beside
the Hamburg was a bevy of small tugs
tooting incessantly. Mr. Roosevelt
waved his hat in answer to the sheer;
of those on ths tugs, for the high wind
prevented any human, voice from cAr:
Pying across the water. The Hamburg
dipped her color. in answer to the
salute of the forts, and her'siren an-

craft met and passed. When the Ham-
burg was last seen moving eastward
in the haze that covered the Atlantis
those on ghore saw a figure high up on
the bridge waving a last farewell.

G G. Kelley Jr. has never made any
statement to any one else relative to
this matter. Everything that Prof.
Dunn has stated was based upon state-
ments I made to him relative to the
receipt of thf letter, announcing tire
dissolution of the law firm. Any other
conversation which wo had was rela-
five to matters which occurred before
Jan. 1 of thia year, and had absolutely
no connection in any way wth.H. Bas-

It is In JuoMco to the author of the
letter and to his son and to all con-

the entire foundation for all the state-

by Prof. Dunn to H. Bascom Thomas
and by H. Bascom Thomas tn the pub

instance of how imaginative minds can
weave gigantic theories to suit them-
selves.

Austin, March 23.— (Spectal )- The
following self-explanatory letter was
’given to the press today:
In a circular issued by H. Bascom
Thomas a few days ago, a. statement
I was made relative to a letter written
i by a member of Mr. Wolters’ law firm
in Houston to the soh of this member.
The statement had absolutely no foune

tween father and son, and they had
I never communicated since the Christ-
. mas holidays, except by mail, and
among aill letters this one contains the

! law firm. The connecting of any
{overdraft of Mr. Wolters with expen-
1 ditures in Austin or pertaining to the
I legislature, has never been made by
either myself or the letter referred to.
The amount of the overdraft, the time
when made and spent, together with
the plate, is manufactured out of facts
which no well poised man could ever
have dreamed of making. The letter
itself to the fair and impartial minded
citizen is self-explanatory, and is as
follows:

son of Comiissioner Storey, will
go in with them and I presume
Mr. Ayars will also be a member.
Mr. Jackson and I withdraw.
Bo far as I myself am concerned,
I feel relieved as the perpetual
grind in this railroad business her*
is fast breaking mo down; but I
regret It on your and your sister’s
account, as I am anxious to get you
all in some good place where you
could have some advantages. It
will not be so bad for you as for
the girls, for when you get through
with school you can locate in some
good place anyway, but the girls
can not do this. I would like for
Louise to spend one term at Aus-
tin, but don't think she is much in-
clined to do so.
It will be awfully dull for me in
Wharton, as most of my business
has gone elsewhere, but I can
recover some of it after a while.
