Wood told the Advocate that he
was the “key person" involved in
producing the brochure which hit
district mailboxes just two days
before the recent trustee election
At the recent board meeting
following the election Supt. Wood
came under criticism for mailing it
right before election
To accusations that the brochure
had been politically motivated in
favor of a pro Wood candidate Wood
said that the timing may have been
bad, but the mailing just two days
before the election was “totally
accidental.”
This does not explain then why
on the day of the mailing that the
Central Office could not wait a few
days longer for processing of a special
application that would have given the
school a much cheaper postal rate
He also said that the publication
was a ‘ positive public relations tool"
New Board President Tommie
Daniel asked Wood that if the publica
tion was to tell the story of the entire
Cleveland school, why was it that the
name of the Deputy Supt Joe Hines
did not appear a single time in the 16
page brochure
... Fund
(From Page One)
he “must get a legal opinion on that.”
Smith asked if he (Wood) was going to
call and pointed to the telephone
Wood then said, "I do not intend to at
this time.” He again repeated his
refusal.
When Smith asked to initial the
sheets (for future indentification)
Wood answered with an emphatic,
“Nel”
The superintendent had still not
responded at presstime Monday.
Advocate reporters had still not seen
a Public Relations item in the budget

budget material !' «
. Superintendent Wood told the
board and later the Advocate that the
cost of the brochure to the school *
district was $1085.50 for printing and
$160.96 for postage. This came to
$1246 46.
. Last Thursday during an Advo-
cate interview, Sug^ Wood said that
preparation of theummed labels for
mailing would be "about $40”
The Advocate then discovered
that the true price on that invoice was
$257.12 or a $227.12 discrepancy be-
tween Wood’s estimate and the real
price.
The $40 price mentioned by
Wood is found under "Office Sup-
plies" paid to Ad Valorem Records,
Inc. It is not found anywhere under
Public Relations, the Budget Item
under which Wood says the brochure
was published
Then on another sheet of bills
and payroll reported to the board for
approval is another listing to the
same company for an amount more
than six times greater identified only
as office supplies.
The Advocate has also found that
Musical Records are now being
