played Carthage both years."
There had been talk that Carthage planned to
open up its offense a bit more, but If It did the
change was hardly noticeable. It ran the end around
with Wyche Walton carrying on its first play from
scrimmage which was innovative. and his four yard
gain was the sixth longest run of the contest for Car.

Thereafter the Bulldogs just kept hammering away
at the Tigers, trying to break a long one, and the

Daingerfield's superb defensive unit put a halter
on the vaunted Carthage running attack shutting II
down without a first down in the final 13:30 of play
when victory hung in the balance to prove its No 1
AAA state ranking with a solid 10-6 decision here
Friday night.
Trailing 6-3 after Carthage scored on a 54yatd
pass with 3:30 left in the third period, the awesome
Tigers did just what they had to do to get the win.
dominating the rest of the contest offensievly and
defensively.
Th turning point came shortly after the Carthage
score when trie Everett hustled up a Bulldog fumble
in the Daingerfield end tone just as it appeared the
hosts might blow the game open.
Carthage forced a tremendous break on the
kickoff whn Roy Bell creshed into Everef an 4 made
• him cough up the ball at the Tigers 34, where Paul
Johnson claimed it for Bulldogs.
After an incomplete pass, Kemmy Henderson got
the nod and broke up the middle to come clear for a
moment before the Tigers' Mark Austin caught up to
him and rattled the ball loose.
It bounded forward into the end zone, but the
Bulldogs lost possession there when Ivereff pounced
on it to atone for his earlier mistake.
Daingerfield's fine offense then mounted a 12 play
drive that erased the rest of the fhitd quarter and
three minutes of the fourth stanza before it lost
steam at the Carthage 19. Darin McAlister Vernon
Hicks, Jon Almedia and Wylie Gates made tackles in
the final ser.es of three plays that produced a fourth
and-11 situation and brought 1 odd Freeman on to try
and fie the contest. His field goal attempt from the
37 was blocked squarely by Mark Booth and Car
