The Sesquicentennial steering
committee is seeking Ideas lor the
celebration and has resolved to
complete and open the first floor of
the proposed museum on the
square this year; organise and
open the archives during the
second year; and complete the
third floor of the museum for the
third and final year leading to the
state sesquicentennial celebration.
The group plans to have the
lower level ol the proposed
museum cleared out within 30
days so work may begin on the
museum.
In other business, commission
chairmameila Belle LaGrone told
members that the genealogical
society serving this area has con-
tacted her, requesting to publish
the records she has compiled of
more than 70 cemeteries in Panola
County.
She presented correspondence
from the Texas General Land Of-
fice requesting a place name
verification for Murvaul. Mrs.
LaGrone's investigation into the
request lead to the discovery that
what is presently known as Mur-
vaul Creek was designated Mur-
vaul Bayou in the mid 1800's.
Members discussed general
maintenance problems with the
museum building including some
insulation deficiencies and a
broken water line. A decision was
also made to install a placard on
the museum door indicating that
the museum is not yet open and
that work is in progress,
