wer to the charge of murdering Sheriff
Hornsby fourteen years ago. Sheriff
Matthews returned without the pris-

these new financial institutions er-
gunited in the state and most of them
are in operation.
There are now about one-third as
many state banks as there are national
banks in Texas aad if the movement of
organizing new ones continues as ex-
ported there will be upwards of IM

year. It is thought that this fall when
the crops are harvested there will bo
a large number of new "state banks
organized. Most of these ustitutions
are capitalized for $10,000.
These smaller banks seem to fill a
nich in the financial affairs of the
stat* that has been heretofore unoc-
