Dear Senator:
I have yours of the 25th. Thanks for your abidin iAin-
terest in the affairs of the Medical College.
I think it is of vital importance to 'Texas that the
legislature recognize what service the school, along with its
associates, can be to the people of Texas and what, to the con-
trary, could be a disgrace if, through inadequate funds, the
State and the school would suffer a continued ignoring of
facts that would lower the level of teaching and instruction
which is expected of and is within the ability oA? the tate

was very mnuch surprised to learn only on yesterday
that Governor shivers named a few days before he left office
three new members of the .doard of Regents. I know of no objec-
tion to these gentlemen as individuals, but I fear Governor
Shivers' chief motive in appointing them at the last moment
was his erroneous sense of econormy, if not his desire to
maintain an influence in continuing undesirable and uneconomic
policies in the administration of higher education in Texas.
